PRDATR Report post Posted May 8, 2013 Learn something new everyday. As a kid growing up on Long Island in the 50's and 60's we only surf casted the beaches and caught them in the marshes on the in coming tides. I didn't know the state had records for them in fresh water too. Fish over 50#'s were pretty common back then especially if you fished Montauk in October or were lucky enough to fish New Jersey where the current IGFA record of 78.8#'s was caught. Gut Pile Report post Posted May 9, 2013 I've some pretty good luck fly fishing the Northen coves, as far back as you can get at Lake Pleasant on top water and sub surface flys. Spinning gear with Zara Spooks, or anything immitating shad does well also. Gotta be there AT THE CRACK OF DAWN because it starts to drop off about 8AM then picks back up just before sunset. Heres a tiny guy I caught on the fly rod. Good Luck!
