metau Report post Posted May 6, 2013 My project at work is coming to an end so I have an unplanned vacation coming up. Seeing as how I have an OTC archery turkey tag, as well as a fly line that has been dry for far too long, I think I know just how I will start that vacation. But this also raises the question: if you could take off the entire archery turkey season, and wanted to get in some good fly and spin fishing along the way, which unit would you head to? To make things even more interesting, I've never bagged a turkey, this will be my first time going after them with a bow and there is at least one major fishery in/near each unit that is on my to do list that I've never been to. I'm curious to see peoples responses. Thanks.
Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted May 6, 2013 Easy hop between 1 and 27.........either one you can find fishing or turkey.....problem is......soon as you put the pole in your hand that Tom will step out and you will be scrambling for the bow.......sounds like a fun time good luck.... metau Report post Posted May 7, 2013 soon as you put the pole in your hand that Tom will step out and you will be scrambling for the bow Wouldn't be my first time. I used to do casts & blasts all the time when I lived in CO. Never caught a lot, hardly ever shot anything, but was always a good time. Even managed to mix in some predator hunting a few times, and that was quite fun. My thoughts for this are more along the line of hunting till I get a bird, and then fish whatever days are left. Of course, if I don't have a turkey by the end of the season, I could always extend my vacation to make sure I get in some quality fishing time-you know, to keep my sanity in good health and all..... What's the snow like in 1/27 right now?

We hit a small patch of snow deep up in a draw on the north side of south mountain there at Alpine two weeks ago, very little out there but we were mostly in 27.... Siwash Report post Posted May 8, 2013 I got the same plan as you but it's just a long weekend and 1/27 don't figure for me. Gonna hunt AM between 4A/B and 23 and fish PM at Willow Springs...if you have a float tube you might consider taking your fly line to Chevelon Canyon Lake...plenty of turkey in the area too.
