Predator Called Spring Bear - The Anomaly

Recommended Posts

You waited "a full" 20 minutes???? You have been hunting bears for 20 years???? Just some advice next time I would at least an hour or two, YOU PUSHED THAT BEAR

Sorry, but I disagree. My 20 years of hunting bears have taught me that when a bear runs...it RUNS!!!! And when it runs, it covers serious ground. That bear was long gone after 20 minutes. Heck, I could have tracked that bear after 10 minutes and it would have made NO difference. I only waited 20 minutes to allow my heart rate to normalize so I could properly "stalk" its sign just far enough to determine if it went on the rez, as that was the direction in which it veered. If you know how to properly stalk your quarry, it is quite easy to do so on a wounded animal without "pushing it" at all. Don't hop, skip, jump, nor whistle "Dixie" while tracking it and understand that "wait time" is very subjective and depends on many circumstances and variables associated with the situation. A one to two hour wait time is a nice textbook answer, but it does not always apply.

Well, usually when folks wait an hour, it's because the game has no idea what hit them. Thus they are not spooked, and they die wondering what the heck happened. In this case, it is clear the bear saw Kidso, realized it was a trap, and turned tail. I have no doubt that when that thing ran, it knew Kidso had hit it, and it was booking for good. So waiting 20 mins in that case was probably a good idea b/c that bear was gonna cover ground.

The subject of "wait time" has always had different opinions on how long to wait. I will say, that waiting "too long" has far less variables that can go wrong than waiting "not long enough."

On a side note, did you attempt to claim your bear after the WMAT gave you permission? Or did you choose to let it die without claiming because the meat and hide are not good anymore?

We don't need "ethical" bashing here when people don't hunt the way you think they should.

Yup... what a bonehead comment. I remember an archery bear kidso killed.... it was a nice bear and a one of a kind color phase. I'd take that bear any day.

Kidso also called in a nice bear at 4Peaks few years ago and was able to harvest it. As a hunter and father, I have respect for Kidso and his passion, profession and determination.

If you are so familiar with a story from a few years ago then you have been visiting this great site for quite some time. After years of zero contribution to the site you finally decided to join so you can post this? Really??? I think most people would agree that if you are going to join the site just to throw out ignorant negative comments then we would rather do without your input. What makes this site so incredible is all the knowledgeable and dedicated members that contribute to this site day in and day out to make it what it is, the best hunting related site on the web. If this is the best you can do and this is what you have to offer, then NO THANKS!!!

Kidso is a walking book of knowledge when it comes to bears and bear hunting. Many of us on this site have been fortunate enough to benefit from Kidso's generosity when it comes to sharing his knowledge. Like I said before, what makes this site so special is the knowledgeable and dedicated members, Kidso being one of them. If you can't recognize and appreciate that then please go elsewhere.
