2 years ago, on the Horseshoe 2 wildfire, I called in a big Gould's tom to less than 40 yards with no calls and he was in full strut. Just my own half-a$$ed yelping. That was the end of May.

Called in a really old tom the last day of the 2008 season late hunt about a half hour before sunset. We had a big cold front come in across the rim that year. First time I got rained on, hailed on, and snowed on during a turkey hunt. Only mild winds but the lightning got bad about an hour after getting my bird. My dad and I were a long ways from the truck & he found a huge elk shed in the dark on the way back. Was a strange but fun experience.

Called on in a tom in the evening two days before the last day of the hunt. About an hour before dark he started gobbling and came in to about 15 yards, in unit 7 2011.

I've had good success calling in gobblers late in the season. Late in the season, it's 90% knowing the birds you're hunting and about 10% calling. JMO

Swivelhead, what do you mean 90 percent knowing the birds your hunting? Like knowing patterns of daily activity from scouting or the breeding stage they are in?

Had about 7 today gobble at me honking my horn and making "gobble like" sounds at them. Tame as kittens. All depends on where you are - these birds had never been hunted, and they were in full force chasing the few hens around.

bdd123 was in camp opening morning and called in a tom. His wife's stupid little dog chased it away before anyone could get a shot

Coach, if they are in unit 1, please shoot me coordinates! :)

I wish they were in unit 1 :P . Got my back side kicked in 1. These were out on Bonito Prairie, coming back from fishing on the Black River.

Had a good morning in 1. Had two toms talking this morning. Worked one of them and he was hammering. Would answer every call and had him coming on a string. He got to 70 yards when a coyote came running in between us. Scared the heck out of him and he was gone. Coyote sat down out in front of me at 40 yards. I drew my bow settled the pin on him, released and hit a limb. Good morning though.

I called in a hot gobbler yesterday evening. Then I shot him in the face. First Turkey. I'll post a story tomorrow. Still trying to get my wife to fill her tag.
