I am sure you guys will knock me around for this question, but here goes. I am looking at the Python cable locks, to integrate them into my fabrications for lock boxes.

 

What do you use, and what do you think is the best system to use? Also what size do you use?

3/8th for me also. thicker and will take someone who really wants my camera just a little longer to get it.

I was looking for a good strong system, but I am also wanting to lighten the already heavy load to my boxes. Do you think the extra weight is worth it?

I use the smaller one and keep things as light as possible. Truth is I have had to cut one off and did it surprisingly quickly so nothing is going to stop someone who is just an @ss from taking it or breaking it. the cable is just a really good deterent so no need to add weght or cost in my opinion. One of my old cameras I use a light chain and two lock, now that one is going to require some bolt cutters or a lot of time with a hack saw to get off, but not quite as convenient.

I wouldn't dare use another for any of my cameras. I had an expensive can stolen because I used one. All it is is a wire cable. A thief just needs a wire cutter and a little bit of time and Kazam! He now has your camera. Best bet is to use lag bolts and a chain.

I bolt my security box to the tree with lags. That way they have to get into the security box to remove it from the tree. It is also pretty light with only 2 lags and a socket wrench. Just another option for you

If you check out some of my other postings in the Trail cam forum you will see I do use lags but my box design utilizes a bracket so I can swivel and pivot to cam for good coverage "you can't always get the tree in the right spot" I also use a welded chain to wrap the tree. Last year one of my boxes was stolen, they ripped the lags out of the fence post and cut the barbed wire to slip off the chain. Bad placement!!!! I am wondering if the weight difference is worth the stress of "IS IT STILL THERE?"

The last camera box I seen broken into the perp had some type of a pry devise and is not cutting the cable but prying the boxes open and removing the camera.

I took a chance yesterday placing a cam on a water hole with the 3/8 python and a master padlock through the box. See what happens in about a month.

I put one of mine out last week with a homemade cable and lags holding it to the tree. "Fingers crossed" It is at least 1/2 mile from the road.
