Anaconda Report post Posted January 5, 2014 Only about 2% of all cattle grade out at USDA Prime. Flemings seems to beat out Ruth Chris here in central Calif. The best I ever had was Smith & Wolenskies in Chicago. Dry aged USDA prime. Full dinners ran well over hundred bucks a person, with appetizers and a cocktail, but it was worth it. I sell upper end beef for a living. The reason restaurants get the best beef is because the public usually will not pay for it. A good aged, cut steak can run upwards of $20 a pound, Filet Mignons more like $35. Costco does carry some Prime, but it isn't aged. There are a number of specialty products on the market that will blow your socks off, but you will never find them in a store or 99.9% of butcher shops. Not sure if you know this, but when they grade steak, no matter what only a certain percantage can be prime. I think it is 10-20%. So if a bunch gets inspected at once, only a small portion can be labeled prime. So choice or better is pretty often prime, or very close to it. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
maximus Report post Posted January 5, 2014 my first choice will be Morton's, mastro's, dominick's and then ruth chris, fleming's used to be good but since outback bought them out is another corporate crop!! but why pay $ 60.00 for a steak when you can grill them yourself, is a ripoff and also in the high end steak houses never find a decent wine for less the $60.00 or $ 70.00 bucks. He and his buddies will be served up next winter as we host outback trail rides and cook gourmet meals. AZkiller Report post Posted May 13, 2014 Arrowhead grill in Glendale is the best in town for my money on the west side for sure Mastro's on the Eastside. just went to Gordon Ramsay's steak in Las Vegas and hands down the best I've ever had. order a side of the bone marrow demi glaze to go with your wagou rib cap, but plan on a dinner for two to be around 250. It was cooked by my good friend Ted Bounds, aka jackshoe, but as far as who has the best steaks around this state it has to go to my wife Peg. No one will ever compare and I'll bet my life on it. The meat I have seen isn't kept cold enough. Same as Pro's Ranch Market, very poor quality control compared to where I usually shop which is Sprouts or Food City.
