royerj1 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 It's mounted between the tripod and bino's. Squeeze the trigger and you can move the bino's 180 degrees. Release the trigger and it locks into place. Looking to spend less than $150. Any suggestions. Sportsman Warehouse had a couple. The tripod is a Nikon and the bino's are 15x56 Swarovski's, if that matters on the brand selection available. Thanks in advance, John

royerj1 Report post Posted September 10, 2006 First, thanks for the responses. I have the Jim White quick release on the binos and I was checking out his gyro pistol systems online. Pretty expensive. Are they worth the extra coin? What are you paying for. I think they were lighter for one. Thanks, John
BASS Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I have a pistol grip head. How do I like it? I have no idea, none of my tripods will accept it, so I'm saving for a new tripod now.
DEERSLAM Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I use the Outdoorsmans pistol grip with the Jim White panning attachment and love it. Little pricey for both though.
Dan H Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I have had a the Bogen pistol grip for years, and I like it. It adjusts to my pack rather easy, very steady, binos don't wiggle etc. I usually keep my bino straps around my neck for extra security if it falls over while glassing with 15s, and I can pull my spotting scope out of the pack and mount it on the head pretty quickly to reach out and see something. 1 detail wore out a few yaers ago and I sent it to them and they fixed and put in a new ball assembly free of charge. I bought the wife a Nikon tripod from Manfrotto No. 848 at SWarehouse it does not have the trigger yet, just the standard handle style, and I have had no problem using it but I really don't like the red clip open /close design on for raising the main post , it snaps to loud when locking it. coues4x4 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 hey bass they have an adapter at sportsman for your pistolgrip it goes from 1/4 20 to 3/8,ask them at the binoc counter.
grizzly Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I like the pistol grip because it can go to 90 degrees and become a rest to shoot off of. One tip to avoid the herky-jerky motion is to tie a bandanna around the grip that holds it in a little, it will move very smoothly that way.
shortpants Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I've owned the bogen and the outdoorsman pistol grip heads. Most people seem to prefer pan heads over pistol grip heads. I love my outdoorsmans pistol grip but it does require a little more finess which is why most people don't like 'em. The bogen head was good but had a few problems. In cold weather the 15's would want to fall forward because the metal ball (pivot) would actually shrink in cold weather. It also got noisier as the years went buy even after trying to clean it. My motto is buy what you want the first time, it's cheaper that way.
