Lots of us hunting 23 this year

Thanks for the info Sundevil. Sounds like the bear have not moved much since August. TAM, I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't figured the NM coues out. I did see quite a few deer last year while hunting the AZ side. I'll be way up high hunting this Nov. Same there, not many but I hope to find a bruiser. I've seen coues in the conifers and have picked up several good sheds but I've been out many days that seeing one was nice. I hope to be in country that I may be able to find a coues for myself or a muley for my wife.

I've posted this picture before. In fact I use it as my avatar pic. I thought I'd post it again just to get everyone's blood pumping for the up coming NM hunts. This is from a NM unit 23 buck! I'm sure it's from the same buck, it just took me 4 1/2 years to find the other side. The good side scores roughly 54 inches. Bucks like this are the reason I hunt NM, they're tough to find, but they grow 'em BIG!!!

Those are some great sheds, I do a bunch of shed hunting up here in north central NM and I would sure like to find a coues shed to add to my collection of elk and muley. 2 weeks...

I went out scouting on Friday. Mostly just making sure I could still get into areas I want to hunt after all the rains this year. I wasn't early enough to see much. Here's some photos from my scouting trip. Some good Coues country. This will be my first time to hunt Coues deer with a muzzleloader so it should be interesting.

Good luck to all of you. Hopefully I'll have some good photos to share with you in a week or so.

looks good Scott, I'll only be going about half way to 23 this coming weekend. My son has a youth deer hunt in 17. Hope you have a blast on your muzzloader hunt.

Apparently there was a massive outbreak of CWD in unit 23 targeting all of the whitetail bucks with at least 3 points on one side. It is just awful out there and all that is left to hunt are forked horns. There are big bucks dead or dying all over the unit. If I lived out of state I don't think I would even bother driving over to NM to hunt, would probably be a waste of your time!! :D

I am heading out on the Friday before the season, if you see a 3/4 ton Gray Dodge cummins with a headache rack and a large wall tent or travel trailer pull on in, dont drink beer but will have a cold pop for you!! good luck to all and shoot straight!! I will be North of mule creek most likely unless I find something better south of the road next weekend. AG

Well, I don't drink either so a pop will be fine. Hey don't you think that antelope hunt was plenty of hunting for the year? I mean, you don't want to over do it. You may have to pass on the elk and Coues this year.

I'll be in a maroon GMC crew cab with a big ole CouesWhitetail.Com sticker in the back window. Not sure where I'll be camping, maybe Coal Creek in AZ or off the Harden Cienega road. I'll look for you if you are out scouting during the muzzleloader hunt.

Good Luck Scott,

I will be in the Burros starting Friday for kade's deer hunt. Spent this past weekend over there and saw a few coues and muley bucks but nothing to right home about.
