Big Browns Report post Posted April 9, 2013 Anyone have any experance with this hunt? I'm very tempted, but $3500 is a lot to spend on a hunt for me. What is the hunt like, what is the expected size of animals that are killed? I'm really interested, but I need more info before I pull the trigger. Anyone go on this hunt before? Pics? Thanks for the info, Adam

Big Browns Report post Posted April 10, 2013 Dan has been a great help. He was able to answer all of my questions. I would really like to talk to anyone else who has gone on this hunt. The more info the better. It sounds like a really challenging hunt with a good chance for a large Bull.
Troy Report post Posted April 11, 2013 I have had this hunt, I would not ever do it again. It is a very very very hard hunt. You hope for a lot of snow fall to push the elk down. But even then your hunting in the worst conditions possible. And most elk are broken.
Tines Report post Posted April 11, 2013 I've never done it but a friend of mine has. He had the same experience as Troy. For $3,500 you could probably draw a late rifle general hunt, hire a reputable outfitter and have more opportunities at a bull just as good.
kaibabkiller Report post Posted April 12, 2013 I had the opportunity to tag along with a buddy on the Malay Gap hunt this last January. The roads suck, no maps available, 2-3 feet of snow and 2 degree mornings!! That being said I saw the biggest typical muley I've ever seen, 200 turkey, 20-30 coues bucks and some beautiful country!! We also had the pleasure of watching 200 head of elk migrate off the rim to lower country(no shooters). On the 6th day my buddy was able to connect on a 315 inch broken bull. It's a late season hunt so expect to put some miles down glassing into the canyons and mountain sides. Also, bring lots of extra fuel, chains and gators for your boots. 6 days of wet boots and feet sucks!!
Alpinebullwinkle Report post Posted April 12, 2013 I hunted it about 5 years ago with three other buddies. It is a tough hunt and toughest on vehicles but I still really enjoyed it. You have to be well prepared both vehicle and equipment wise for this tough hunt. My buddies shot two 320 class bulls the first day. I trophy hunted and ended up skunked (we only stayed the first 5 days while hunting only about 2-1/2 of those days). The 3rd day we had a 24" snowfall and spent the next three days making car repairs and winching out of the snow. It was too muddy down low where I knew the monster bulls would be so my only regret is I never gained access to where I suspected my bull to be. Still a blast if you do not have a tag but expensive hunt to participate on. You end up taking a leap of faith on the weather.
