BMart Report post Posted August 1, 2013 /> could tell you about the time me and Workman had a guy pull a gun on us for driving by his property up there on the archery goat hunt. lots of tweekers up there bro. Yes definitely watch out for meth houses and meth heads. I'd be well armed while up there scouting and hunting. Well now I'm nervous. I've been scouting 3 weekends since starting this topic. Seen some places I wanted to stay away from but nothing this bad. I always have my G20 on me but I would hate to feel like I needed to use it. Thanks for the heads up though. Saw 8 bucks last weekend, headed back up tomorrow after work.
BMart Report post Posted August 1, 2013 Plenty of places to camp but also be aware there are antelope moving around all the water spots you mentioned as well. Camp at Scott's and then drive and hike the other areas so you don't acciepdently run them off in an are you could hunt. Since I've been up scouting I've found a place to stay that is on Forest Service land but not on any of the roads I asked about earlier. When I drove down those roads I realized I would be camped right in the middle of where I wanted to hunt. I went to the Antelope Seminar at the G&F office a few months ago and received some good info on camp spots from a Warden for that area.
couesmagnet Report post Posted August 1, 2013 Make sure you look around ortega mountain. especially on the east side. Over the years i've seen 2 85 plus inchers right there, and 1 got killed in 1999 or 2000. It went over 86. You can drive to the top and glass all surrounding country . Also if you have a spotter , this is a perfect set up for you. Good luck and have fun.

trphyhntr Report post Posted August 11, 2013 here is a 3b north archery goat. not huge obviously but any pronghorn with a bow is a trophy. i believe i harvested it 3rd day of the hunt. saw them in the same area they were the day before when i saw them moving to water. i set up a decoy between them and the water and i hid behind a cedar. sure enough they took the same route and he saw my decoy. was really cool, he dropped his head and ears and come trotting in like he was going to fight. shot him head on and it broke one leg, had to track him for 5 hours. got a wicked sun burn, but followed pin heads of blood till he finally laid up, had to finish him at close range.
BMart Report post Posted August 26, 2013 Score as of Monday afternoon: Antelope 4, Me 0 Put some serious miles on the boots since all the roads are too muddy to drive down. Also, haven't shot or been shot at by any Meth Addicts yet so I'm doing pretty good. Think I ran the big buck I scouted out of the country today, almost drew back 3 times and he finally had enough and ran for miles.

BMart Report post Posted August 27, 2013 Antelope 6, Me 0 No shortage of bucks up here but dang they are hard to get close to. This is going to make hunting Muleys in January seem easy. Got to 120 with the Be-The-Decoy this afternoon but he just wouldn't come closer. Had a 30 min stare down till I finally started crawling to him, made it 10 yards and they walked off. I guess they need to be rutting a little more for the Goat Suit to work.
Hornhunter247 Report post Posted August 29, 2013 Bmart I have been using the be the decoy with so so results. I've found that just the shirt seems to bring them in closer for some reason. I've missed 2 shots on Monday and have had antelope within 50 yards everyday. Just waiting for a good shot opportunity again. I'm not sure I've got any good pointers, but I have been just sneaking in on them and when I get spotted I just sit and wait. They have come straight to me almost every time. And the bigger herds seem to come in closer before spooking. Good luck out there!
