FB67 Report post Posted April 4, 2013 Went to Alaska last July and I will be back in 2014. The 200 pound Halibut was like pulling a VW bug off the bottom of the ocean but what a blast.

Elkaddict Report post Posted April 4, 2013 Got a self guided trip in July. This will be my second time. Really wasn't excited prior to the first one, now it's all I can think about! I think I have watched every halibut video on YouTube ! I do have an elk tag to consume some of my thoughts but the Alaska trip is first!

Elkaddict Report post Posted April 4, 2013 Anybody interested in a quality self guided trip check out http://www.watersedgealaska.com/Waters_Edge_Lodge/Home.html Kelly and Mary are great hosts, you will love it! What do you mean by self guided? They supply the boat, bait, tackle, etc. They show you how to use the electronics, GPS and depth finder. They will show you how to rig your baits for salmon, halibut , rock fish etc. and it's up to you to go catch them. It does help to have some experience with boat handling but its not hard to learn. Basically you're by yourself with family and or friends and you determine what and how you fish everyday. Last year my wife and I fished 5 days and brought home 250 lbs of filleted salmon, rock bass, and halibut. There are radios on the boat so you are in contact with the lodge at all times, and they will make sure you catch fish. Self guided the limit is 2 halibut per day where guided is 1 , being self guided they have to be careful with the Alaska game and fish laws concerning helping the anglers. Like I said this is my second year and can't wait to get back up there. They are in Elfin Cove, beautiful area with probably the best halibut fishing in any of the Alaskan waters. cohofishing Report post Posted April 4, 2013 Commercial fished around there for years. Grew up in Hoonah, Alaska. Great place to fish and visit. Cross Sound is just off of open ocean so you get new fish ever tide. Brent

Is it more reasonable priced?

Is it more reasonable priced?Go to their website, under new guests and look at the NOAA nautical charts. I fished for salmon and ling cod out around Yakobi rock and halibut a couple of miles east of Elfin cove. You only travel maybe 10 miles from the resort, and that's just if you want to. Fishing can be good at any one of hundreds of spots. Just saw on Facebook someone canceled a Aug. 25 trip, which is the best time for silvers. And Kelly said the largest halibut of the season came that week last year. I think his prices are posted on the site, I think it's around $2900 for 5 days of fishing and 6 nights at the resort, all licenses, food, transportation from Junuea, included. Check the charter prices , I believe they are quite a bit higher . Contact Kelly at the number on the website, I've been talking to him over the last couple of months. He is very passionate about the fishing and can fill you in on any questions . My name is Terry Hartsburg, tell him I said hi. Might not be anyone else interested in this post so if you want any more info PM me, also let me know if you get together with Kelly and I will keep you informed about our trip and any other fishing info I find out about.
