TAM Report post Posted September 6, 2006 Anyone ever find any sheds at night? This past Saturday night Treestandman, my two boys, and myself went out in the dark to check a couple of my cameras. At about 9:30 PM on our way back to the quads in the pitch dark I'm using my flashlight to see my way and nearly step on this little coues shed. It's not very big, probably 65-70 inches but it's an antler and it was in the dark. Pretty lucky I guess. I found the mule deer shed on Sunday night while trying to get some video of elk. I wish it's main beam wasn't busted off! To top it off two of my boys were with me when we found the antlers and they were pretty exctited to be the ones to pick them up! Apache7mm Report post Posted September 6, 2006 good job on the sheds at night! actually my first coues i ever killed was right at dark on the last day and on the way back to the truck we came across 3 coues sheds like the one you have in your pic, we used a flashlight to make it back and along the way there they were 3 times. shortpants Report post Posted September 7, 2006 during one of my back country coues hunts I spotted a 110+ class buck walking with a 95 class. I watched them bed down and started my stalk. I had'nt gone 400yds. of the mile hike I had ahead when I jumped a group of deer with a buck I had named family guy because he was always with the same doe and spike. Family guy was a 97'' buck (my guess anyway) and I had him in the crosshairs but could not pull the trigger because I wanted the big 110 class. I made my way to within 400yds. of the 2 bedded bucks and got set up. It was early afternoon so I had to wait forever but finally I saw a deer moving out from behind the thick trees. It was the 95 class and he stepped out to rake his antlers on a branch. I watched him in the scope just waiting for his big brother to make the same mistake. Well I laid there until it was pitch black and no sign of the buck. The 95 had gone back into the trees and apparently bedded back down to. Sorry this is such a long answer to your question but I had to tell the whole story. On the way back to my camp while hiking in the full moonlight, I found a small 3pt. shed laying about 10 yds. off the path I was walking. It really stuck out in the moonlight. Just to finish the story I passed up shots at family guy, the 95 class, and another 95 class 3x4 (on 3 different occasions) and a whole handful of shots at bucks ranging from spikes to 85 class bucks. I went home with a few sheds including my moonlit shed and memories of one of the greatest hunts I have ever experienced! Ten days by myself in the back country, that's paradise!
