How long do you leave your cam's

Recommended Posts

Just a quick survey, how long do you guys leave your cam's up before moving or removing them. Do you leave them for day's or weeks at a time ?? Some of you guys have some really cool pic's. My buddy and I have been getting a few shots every few day's and I was wondering if we're lucky or is it typical. But I would imagine it all depends on the area too. As soon as i get better at posting i will share some with you .

I have a couple of cameras that I leave up for months at a time and I try and change out the batteries and memory cards every two weeks. These cameras are on established licks that I have had for a few years. The amount of pictures varies depending upon time of year, amount of water, and amount of people moving around the area.

I have another camera that I move around every couple of weeks until I get a good amount of movement on it and then I will leave it for around a month until I decide if there is anything there worth spending time on.

The amount of pictures definately depend upon the amount of sign in the area more than the set-up and lenght of time.

I leave mine for one week. From Sunday night, to Friday night, or Saturday morning. In my mind this cuts back on the chance of someone seeing it while out on a hike or something.

i usually leave mine for months. I had a spot where i had two salt licks within 70 yds of eachother and both were getting nailed. one trailcam on each spot and one spot had nothing but does and the other had does and bucks. the one that had does never had any bucks in any pictures. only 70 yds apart and not any sign of a buck. go figure.

Good point, I have only left mine out for a week because up till about two months ago I have only used 35mm and after a week the film has ussually been used up.

I try and leave them hanging from August thru Jan w/o moving them. I check them every week if I can to replace memory sticks and batteries.

Once I find a good spot I like to leave mine out almost year round. I will usually check the pictures every 1-3 weeks.

I've only had mine since about April, but it's been out 90% of the time. The only reason I pulled it at first was to recharge the batteries and change the memory card. Now that I have extra batteries and cards, I leave it out all the time and swap out cards and batteries every 2-3 weeks.

Another camera I've had out for going on 3 weeks, just checking it last weekend.

I put out a third camera for a day last Thurs to Friday due to the high volume of traffic (and target shooters!) this tank gets, but put it back up Monday afternoon. My dad is pulling it for me either Thurs or Friday. The only reason I wanted it on the tank was there were quite a few deer tracks around it. I just hope curiosity doesn't kill the cat (or camera)...

I just got my first trail cam last month. It's a stelath cam WD-1. I'm pretty excited to put it up next weekend and see what I'll find. My question is does any one use the 12 battery pack? I have a lock kit from stealth so im not worried about the cam getting stolen. But is the battery worth the additional weight to pack in? It has several option for picture taking. 1,2 and 3 round bursts of pics and video. Does any one have experience using multiply exposures per activation? And lastly is the 10 sec video option any good? Thanks for any help and GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!

Cat,

I don't have your same camera, but mine has similar features that I'v used from time to time. The video clips are cool but very memory and battery intensive. I'd only use that feature if you will be able to check on it often. The three picture bursts have never really done much for me except waste more memory and battery power on the same animal. I usually just set mine on single pictures once every 1-5 minutes.

I check my weekly but like BASS I have always had 35mm cameras. I also use mine in very

popular areas. Usually they are taken down friday afternoon and put back sunday afernoon.
