Trying Anything New This Offseason?

Recommended Posts

Since its pretty much the offseason for hunting now, I was wondering if anyone is going to try something new that you might try for the up coming season?

For me, I'm still working on my recurve shooting. Been working on it for a about a year now. I was wanting to get good enough by this past January to hunt pigs and deer, but my accuracy wasn't quite where I wanted it. So I'm still working on it. This past month things have realy clicked with my shooting and now my accuracy has greatly improved. I shot my first Robin Hood with it last night at 20 yards. So hopefully this January the pigs and deer better watch out.

So how about everyone else?

Brian

I have been lifting legs and doing abs everyday (in hopes of getting drawn to hunt elk in the Rocky Mountains). I google earthed the area and it looks like either get in shape or don't even bother going.

Nothing new for me. Will spend the summer practicing with my new bow. Work, and no time off in January didn't allow me to get out hunting as I had hoped, so I am looking forward to this fall. Big problem for me right now, is a severe case of Plantar Faciitis in my right foot. I can go up hill without too much pain, but going down hill is pure torture. Doc says that orthotics, and keeping off my foot as much as possible for healing. But since I have to work to pay bills, it's kind of hard to heal when I am on my feet all day. Will see how things progress by fall. I might have to stick to some more forgiving terrain than what I usually hunt.

Working on my pack string and fly camp set up. Fitness not an issue and I can shoot my bow every day so now I am working on a new mule so I can ride one and pack 2 . Major pain in the butt packing this way and trying to hunt yourself. The biggest issue I am having is my new mule yard saleing my packs ounce in a while and when I get to where i am going and want to hunt I need to be able to leave them grazing. Sometime there's no graze, no water, and of course they wonder off a bit. I will be set up nice if things come together on these 2 issues though. Hope and prey to pack some meat this year with them. My meat or friends, don't matter to me.

I am sure they will love the meat on their backs too. I guess I can use the new mule to tenderize the meat.
