AverageJoe Report post Posted March 29, 2013 I dont see where they are attacking archery hunters....can you please explain?
bonecollector777 Report post Posted March 29, 2013 Whoa! Can anyone else believe GandF actually lowered the overall number of deer tags? Poor guys aren't gonna know what to do getting less money this year. That will probably set at least one of them back a new truck this upcoming season. standman Report post Posted March 29, 2013 I dont see where they are attacking archery hunters....can you please explain? They are only allowing unit 29 to be a 12 day archery hunt in January instead of all of January and again no December archery hunt for 29. wardsoutfitters Report post Posted March 30, 2013 They removed the December hunt this past season and now half of January, this without even having the data to see if shutting down December reduced harvest? If they were concerned with harvesting too many deer then why not reduce a few rifle tags? The Coues deer numbers are strong and the mule deer are low. With that said the department hasn’t figured out how to only shut down the mule deer archery season, And they also aren't smart enough to figure out that survey numbers are down because they fly the same blocks year after year, although the fires devastated most of the areas they normally survey and the deer have moved, Come on AZGFD I thought you were smarter than that????
CWpredator Report post Posted March 30, 2013 I was hoping last year would be the 1st and only year to eliminate the archery tags for december 34a but again this year it's in effect again... Lets flood the unit with 2700 rifle tags but cut the bow hunters out. It's a shame that when archery success rate hits 20+ percent they cut us out of the mix and just bump rifle tags up for more revenue... Proves the point rifle hunters get preference because of revenue... Sure would be nice to be the little guy in the game and at least have a punchers chance... They don't care about the common man just the money.... G&F for all I care can eat my D*$!

It's pretty bad when Phoenix doesn’t even listen to their own unit biologists. Maybe things will change since WAKELING was demoted
CWpredator Report post Posted March 30, 2013 Wardsoutfitters I know that 100% . I've had many great run ins with field officers but like you said... It's the pencil pushing book worm over educated turds that couldn't read a topo map to save their arse... That run the game a ruin it for the regular guy. They have no facts to support their data
wardsoutfitters Report post Posted March 30, 2013 I was looking through the Hunt harvest data again!!!!! Does anyone know how the department comes up with the number of hunters in the field when this is an over the counter tag and they are good state wide? For instance in: 2010 azgfd reported that 260 bow hunters hunted unit 29 and harvested 53 deer for a 24% success rate. 2011 azgfd reported that 169 bow hunters hunted unit 29 and harvested 42 deer for a 25% success rate. How does the department know how many hunters hunted in 29???????????? YET AGAIN THEY BASE THEIR INFORMATION ON SPECULATION
Sneaker Report post Posted March 30, 2013 That is pretty simple wardsoutfitters: They gather the harvest data from the hunters that care enough about their hunts to submit it after their hunt season(they mail a card to every tag holder, as you know, or you can do it online). In the report it asks which units you hunted, for how many days, and if you were successful. Then they simply extrapolate this data for the number of hunters that did not report.
Flatlander Report post Posted March 30, 2013 I am 100% on board with mandatory reporting and don't know what the departments arguments against it are. What I would like to hear from others is how to make it more accurate. Obviously if your require everyone to report regardless of success there may be some who give inaccurate information. Anyone have any ideas that would help?

I have NEVER received a survey for my OTC archery tag. The ability to close down one species or the other during OTC archery is coming, but they have to revise the guidelines first, which they are doing right now...and the comment period is still open. BTW...the mandatory reporting for archery harvests is going away this year too...figure that one out.
wardsoutfitters Report post Posted April 3, 2013 I just love how the Arizona Bow hunters Association has not once attempted to stop the game and fish department from discrimination against bow hunters/ Where is the voice they say they have for the archers in Az ?????
