Mule Deer matching set. Lucked out!

Recommended Posts

Went out with the faithful and sweet but generally useless shed-dog for an over-night shed hunting/turkey scouting trip up north. She had fun running around, climbing on stuff and sniffing the scents she can't smell in the back yard.

We lucked out and walked up on this matching set of fresh mule deer sheds. Here are the "as they lie" pictures:

They still had bright-red blood on them (found on 3/16/13). I thought it would be too early for mule deer sheds but I guess not. Here's the pic of the bases:

These were the only sheds we found but we (maybe me more than the dog) were super stoked to have found them. They are in perfect shape, pretty darn typical, and also fairly tall. Here are the side by side pictures:

Amanda's already seen these at Jay Scott's turkey hunting seminar (Thanks Jay!) but for anyone else, thanks for looking.

Thank you all for the comments. I'm confident I'll never find another pair this size in such good shape so I bit the bullet and will have them professionally mounted by a CWT.com sponsor (Mogollon Taxidermy). I'll try to remember to post pictures when they're done.

I've done a DIY plaque mount on a small but very typical and freshly dropped coues set I found back in '08 (posted previously) but didn't want to risk it with these. (DIY taxidermy is kinda like DIY out-patient surgery, i.e., you gotta be really careful not to mess things up.)

T.J., good seeing you too. I think you're Peg's good luck charm. (At least I'd keep telling her that! : )
