kidso Report post Posted March 22, 2013 Kidso you ever have luck on the archery bear hunt? I have an archery 22 tag first year trying. Look like I'm going to be spending some time on that hunt doesn't look like I got a elk or goat tag I love the spring archery hunt, but only caught that hunting bug three years ago. I tagged one after calling it in 3 years ago, 2 years ago, I missed two shots on the same bear while sitting water, and last year (thanks to all the road closures due to fire threats and "bear attacks") my 22 spring archery hunt was essentially all but ruined. In my opinion, the longer the spring archery hunt lasts into its season, the better your chance is for tagging a bear as they will move around and forage more for food and water as the air temperature continuees to increase. sniper Report post Posted March 31, 2013 A buddy and I went up to 22 yesterday and spent the day glassing/calling. We didn't see any fresh sign and nothing came into the caller. I didn't have high expectations this early but thought I would give it a shot. There is a LOT of water up there. All the washes are still flowing good. I will get back out there in a few weeks to check it out. Perfect weather up there right now.

Thegrayghost Report post Posted March 31, 2013 a guy i know that went bear hunting opening weekend, saw a bear but was over 2 miles. the next day did some calling and instead of calling in a bear he called in a lion and shot it with his bow at 25 yards. very impressive, non the less the bears are up and moving around now. sniper Report post Posted March 31, 2013 Kidso- Based on the terrain and scat that I saw, I thought that for sure I would get a fox coming in.....but nada. I called maybe 5 stands. Thegrayghost- Good to know that they have been spotted out there. And awesome on your buddy's lion! I kept imagining a lion strolling in also......

MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted April 1, 2013 Spent the weekend 3 days in 5A riding and saw some elk on the hoof but no sheds or bears. No bear sign of any kind. We didn't get off trail much due to the moisture still in the ground so not surprised on the lack of sign. Still some patches of snow up on top and tons of water. Should be a good green up soon up there. Didn't see much of a food source for bears either as far as fresh grass or nuts and berries. I know 5A isn't open for bear right now but thought I would mention anyway.
Guest akaspecials Report post Posted April 7, 2013 I cruised 23N today. Called 2 stands and checked every water hole I know of and didn't see any bear sign. Like someone said earlier, there is a ton of water right now...
