Big Browns Report post Posted March 1, 2013 My dad recently bought a S&W AR-15. I loaded him a few different loads with Sierra's and Hornady 52-55 grain with 24.5-25.5 of winchester 748. So far none of these loads have performed well at 50-100 yards. I was wondering if any of you guys have had any luck working loads for this gun. It's a 1-8 twist. Any suggestions. I'm planning on trying some 69 grain sierra's this weekend. The same loads shoot 1/2 moa out of my DPMS. Adam
rossislider Report post Posted March 1, 2013 I have had awesome results with 24.5 grains of H335 pushing 55 grain Hornady V-max. But, I also have a custom made barrel that they are being shot through which is also a big contributor. Not the same gun as yours, but may be worth a try. I have never tried it myself but my gunsmith swears by R17 and R19 for a .223 load. He claims it shoots fast, clean, and deadly accurate.
Big Browns Report post Posted March 1, 2013 I have also had really good luck with 24.5 grains of H335 with a V-Max. I'm going to try that same load this weekend in my dad's gun. I have a feeling that his gun is going to like heavier bullets.
