matthewp45 Report post Posted February 25, 2013 I finally got an HS Precision 7MM Remington. I have the money put away for a nice scope but I can't figure which one would work the best. I want a nice easy to read and work Turret. Something in the 3-15X40 to 5-20X50 to put a Kenton Turret on it. I have been looking at the Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15X42 Riflescope, Night Force NXS 3.5-15X50 Velocity 1000 Zero Stop and kind of thinking of the Huskemaw 5-20X50MM but I am really battling with the first two. I don't know if the Zeiss is to compact and may not adjust to my perfect eye relief when I throw up my gun. I can not stand it when I throw a rifle up and you have to move your head 5 inches forward to get the full field of view or the opposite. I just didn't know if the tube was long enough for adequate adjusting on a long action rifle. Any help or other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. kooter Report post Posted February 25, 2013 I would stay away from the huskemaw I've heard they have 1/3 Zmoa adjustment. Not what you want for long range
AZ_SAWBUCK Report post Posted February 25, 2013 I am curently shoping for a good scope to top the .300 win mag that I am having built. I have had several people tell me to go with a higher power scope right off the bat. I think Im going to go with a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20X50 or a Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50. The only thing is I have not talked to anyone who has the Vortex scope. Good Luck.

Big Browns Report post Posted February 25, 2013 I'm trying to decide on a scope as well. I've been debating on the Huskemaw and the Vortex Viper PST! I feel both scopes would work just fine for what I need. The Vortex is less than the Huskemaw. My concern with the Huskemaw is the warranty. If the scope brakes in a few years would Huskemaw still be around and would they honor the scope repair. Vortex will probably be around for a long time. We all know they have one of the best warranties in the industry. Huskemaw is only a 20 power scope. The Vortex is 25 power. I do really like the Huskemaw's wind marks on the turret. I know they work well and can be very useful. When you add them up, the Vortex wins most of the time. Swarovski, Zeiss, Nightforce are amazing scopes, but I don't have that type of money to put into a scope at this time. For the money the Vortex is the best value on the market, in my opinion! azgutpile Report post Posted February 25, 2013 Zeiss did a good job with the new HD5; however, they are still missing the boat with regards to their reticles, at least for a longrange scope. Since you are looking at the Nightforce Velocity 1000 reticle, I would assume that you are planning on one going with R-Z 600 or R-Z 800 reticle in the Zeiss. The problem is at .35 MOA, the reticle thickness in the Zeiss is too thick in my opinion. The NightForce is a .1 MOA reticle which allows much more precise aiming. The other concern I have with the Zeiss is that it is brand new, but I have a feeling that . That being said, you would save 11.6 ounces with the Zeiss and have approximatly $800 left in your pocket. With the Nightforce, you will have a much stronger scope, more internal adjustment, illuminated reticle.
mjmhunter Report post Posted February 26, 2013 I to am in the same boat, I just completed a 6.5 Creedmoor build. I think I have decided to go with a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T in 6.5x20x50 with the M1 turret and the TMR reticle. I think most of us could agree that the NightForce is the best scope of what you are considering. The only draw back with them is the price and their weight. The Leupold is 10 ounces lighter. Mainly the weight is what is keeping me from a NightForce but I own a few Mark 4's and found them to be repeatable so there is no lack of confidence with them. I have zero experience with the Huskemaw and with the 1/3 adjustments is not something i am looking for. The Ziess is probably the best optical scope of the choices but with only a 1 inch tube you are only getting 45 minutes of adjustment. So roughly 22 up and 22 down unless you put a canted rail on. With the NightForce there are 110 minutes and the Leupold a 100. On the Vortex they are just to new for me and I have looked through a few pairs of the bino's and were ok but not something I would invest my money in. I have looked through one of their scopes and again it seemed ok but I don't know how repeatable there are. Anyways my 0.02 on the subject, and congrats on the new rifle. matthewp45 Report post Posted March 2, 2013 So in the nightforce they do not make any light weight scopes. That is one of my main factors. I have been looking at the Leupold Mark 4 Tacticle 6.5-20X50m but I only saw a mil dot reticle, what is the TMR? I am looking for a nice light weight scope with good easy to read good turrets and a reticle that will show you how much to hold for wind at different yardages and if you have no time to dial your turret you can use the reticle that has multiple cross hairs to shoot aut to 600 yard or shorter. Thanks again guys for some great info. anymore would be greatly appreciated.

TMR is a tactical milling reticle..... since most hunters use a laser range finder... not sure if TMR is useful (since you are not going to be using the scope/mil dots to range). If you have a range finder that computer mil dots (like the Leupold TBR... you can range an object for your caliber and it was inform you how many mil dots to hold... azgutpile Report post Posted March 3, 2013 I've been looking for something similar for my next rifle and the scopes I'm considering are the ones you mentioned. If weight is an issue go with the zeiss. If you can over look the weight go with the NF, you will get a scope that is nearly bullet proof. Leupold... I haven't had much luck with and I feel they are overpriced for what they are.
oz31p Report post Posted March 3, 2013 I have a leupold mk4 4.5x14x40 w/30mm tube. It has what they call an extra fine reticle. I love it. cbryant11 Report post Posted March 5, 2013 I have a mark 4 with the tmr and its the best i have used , i dont range with it but i use the hash marks for wind and the center crosshair has a very small square hole in it so when iam shooting long distance the hole helps with not covering the target
COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 5, 2013 Hey Matt, for the price I believe Leupolds are the best scope you can get. I have 2 of the Long Range Tactical 6.5-20x50 VX3's with the fine duplex reticle and love them. I'd have Mark4's but those were out of my price range. That Mark4 is a great scope and I think you can have the Leupold Custom Shop put whatever reticle you want in there. I love the Fine Duplex reticle because at long range when zoomed in the crosshairs won't cover up the target like a thick crosshair will. I have a leupold mk4 4.5x14x40 w/30mm tube. It has what they call an extra fine reticle. I love it. Brunos shooting supplys has the best price youll ever find on leupold scopes.
