ZBAR Report post Posted February 19, 2013 Honestly, it sounds like if you put a cam up, there's a good chance it will be taken. Personally, I'd look for another place.
azslim Report post Posted February 19, 2013 if you want to hunt an area spend some time on foot, there are usually hidden tanks away from roads that don't get hit. These are going to be in draws so use that to guide your wanders. Now there is Google Earth, before it I would buy a couple 7.5 minute maps, sit and study them in my living room, then go walk the country. You'll be surprised what a little boot leather will buy you. paul navarre Report post Posted February 19, 2013 Well, public land is for all of the public to use and just because there are blinds there does not give someone the right to take over or hord a spot just because they build a blind the previoius season or set up a pop up blind especially if they leave the blind up well after the season is closed. There is also a chance that these blinds may be only used on weekend. I would believe that at the end of the season, on public land, a blind should be taken down. THere is also a chance that the persons that build these blinds may never hunt the area again. I can understand someone building a blind or setting a popup blind at the start of the season and using it during the season. Personally, if the blinds were recently set up, I would find another spot. Actually, on pubic land, you can use someone's blind if they are not using it. It would be smart to post the hunter's name and phone number on the blind so another hunter could contact them to find their hunting schedual or if they plan on using the blind at all. And then what others have stated also.
Thegrayghost Report post Posted February 20, 2013 If your really wanting to hunt the area, look off the water hole for routes the deer are using to come into the spot and setting up there. You may also avoid the human element by being back off the route that other hunters are using to set-up on the water... Yeah I was thinking of doing this the spot looks really nice and I would love to get a coues with my bow already!! Thanks for the thoughts guys. I know the deer are there so I might hold off on setting my cameras out. If I can find another spot ill defenetly go for the more secluded one but if not i think I'll try this particular water hole come August.

Something else to consider- There is much much less pressure on weekdays than on weekends. Often times the animals are more likely to come back to their trusted drinking spots a day or two after the weekend pressure has settled down. Two years ago I shot a whitetail on a tank at 4:00 pm on a Thursday. I love going into an area knowing I will have the whole place to myself. Some food for thought.
