Baiting???

Recommended Posts

I am confused also. The way I interrpret it. I think building a salt lick for deer would also be illegal:

"ingestible material that has been deposited, scattered, piled, or delivered by a passive or active feeder or feed delivery system so as to constitute an attractant, lure or enticement to wildlife and to influence the movement of these animals for the purpose of harvest by hunters."

The salt that is legal would be for cattle operations only. If you hunt an area with no cows and have a salt lick would it be legal to place salt? I would like clarification on this from G+F.

Seems pretty clear cut .... People looking for the loopholes will always tend to see confusion

Pure salt - legal - not defined as bait

Salt based products ... i.e. Mineral licks that include salt must be manufactured and produced for livestock industry ... ( so unless you have a manufacturing facility and product marketed for livestock, a salt additional mineral combination would be illegal)

unlike most nutritional supplements salt based licks can last a while on land not being actively used for cattle operation and remain viable when land is used again... I would assume the difficulty of enforcement due to this fact would be why Salt and salt based licks are not illegal, plus the fact that salt would kill any cells that would be associated with bacteria and disese would make the a CWD argument hard to sustain

Nutritional supplements - manufactured and produced for livestock would be legal if placed during active operations... So would come to make sense if the land has not had any active operations recently, that being caught using nutritional supplements would be illegal ... nutritional supplements for cattle usually fall into three categories, Protien, Energy, and Roughage... this would include things like corn, hay, grains, meals like soy or cottonseed, molasses ect.

so seems anything homebrewed would be illegal ... unless you becom a licenced manufacturer of Livestock nutritional supplements or salt based products for livestock... making yourself subject to fees, state regulations, taxes, and all the good things that come with being a business.

No where in the law does it say anything about being "licensed" to produce a product for the livestock industry. The new law also says nothing about a product being "labeled" for the livestock industry. It just says it must be produced for the livestock industry...

it states Produced and manufactured for livestock industry ... what do you think that means ... there are federal and state regulations pertaining to livestock nutritional supplements and what can go in them ... there are also natural supplements used as common practice such as hay , corn, corn stalks, soy bean meal, molasses that would be illegal unles placed during an active operation ...

Break it down ...Produced and manufactured for industry .... read definitions... you making a home brew mineral lick does not constitute manufatured for and industry only for your personal use ... try to slant it how you want but it is not confusing to those with common sense

Figures...... All G&F did was take away baiting to the average Joe. The guides are still going to get around this due to the poor wording by the use of land owners with cattle or by placing a single cow on the land. Like I said before I have never used a feeder but I don't like it that if I found a spot I wanted to I now can't. Big money is always the winner in todays hunting.....SAD!

u wanna bait get a dog that eats everyday at 6 pm. U wanna hunt then hunt.

????? I wish what you posted was actually funny but it's not. Just plain ignorant... If baiting is SSSSOOOO BAD to cause the animal to become a pet, then why didn't you guys ban salt and put wording in the law that would make it illegal even if cattle were what the food was put out for? It could have been worded that if a hunter knowingly harvested over any bait then it was illegal. BUT NO you guys just singled out some of the guiding outfits who are using bait. Great Job! You actually did nothing to fix the problem as usual and actually made a loop hole for these exact guiding outfits to continue doing what they were doing. Then your brilliant reaction will be to close the unit to December archery hunting which again only hurts the average(archery) joes out there.

Also I see there is a loop hole for game and fish to bait for game management. Funny, I thought this whole thing was over the spread of disease?

Brilliant minds at their finest
