dchambers629 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 Is it legal to put an arrow through the back of a thief? I took my wife to the emergency room on Friday night and ended up staying home for the weekend. I got back to the mountain this afternoon and drove up the mountain in the snow. I packed a refill of corn up to my blind and when I got there my ground blind was gone along with 2 game cameras. It was so nice of the theif, they left my chair sitting out there next to where the blind was. My cameras are marked and engraved, inside and out, so I will be looking for them in the coming years. If I find who did it, they will pay a lot more than what it cost me in replacing my blind and cameras! It's pretty sad that there are theifs out in the woods. They ought to stay in the concrete jungle with all the other riff/raff.
DesertBull Report post Posted January 29, 2013 They got a camera from me up their last year too and one near there, but closer to the highway. It cost them more in gas to drive up there and get them than it would have cost them to stop at BPS on the way and pick up a new one. Thieves are a special kind of stupid.
ZBAR Report post Posted January 29, 2013 That's Ord for ya. If you have a cam up there you can pretty much expect its gonna get tampered with. It's just to close to the valley/highway.
dchambers629 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 The sad thing is now every person I run across up there now, I will think,""THIEF". You can't trust anybody anymore! What happened to the days when you run across another hunter, tip your hat, smile, wave, and if you have time stop and exchange stories... Now you drive by somebody, I won't call them a hunter, cause they might be a thief, and you wonder if that's the asshole that stole you're equipment. I hope somebody eventually catches the jackass! Liars and thiefs should all be shot! Discusting!!!

AZ8 Report post Posted January 29, 2013 Don't automatically pin it on hunters. It's proximity to Phoenix opens the door to all walks of life. Hikers, birdwatchers, free-love patchouli smelling individuals, wacky tobacky crew, college frat gang. A lot of non-hunting people walk that range and may not approve of our hunting tradition. They see something that is hunting related and decide to make good on saving Bambi. Heck, some guy decided to drive his Mini Cooper up the hill.....
Viper Report post Posted January 29, 2013 I hunt across the highway. I've seen all sorts of vehicles go up the Mazatzals.... BMW (ripped open tranny on cattleguard), Mercedes (got stuck in the deep snow, had to be towed off by chained up tow truck), Lincoln Continental (with four drug cartel looking dudes), various other passenger cars. I just scratch my head and think WTH. I've had trail cams in the area with no trouble (other than having one burn in the fire), but they are way in off the beaten path. I only spend $100 on a camera + $30 box. If I left a ground blind out there, I'd hide it real good...not leave it set up. There are all sorts of folks in those mountains, mostly along the roads. I've heard from several sources that illegals poach a lot of deer in that area. In this tough economy people will find all kinds of ways to make money....not necessarily hunters stealing cameras. JLW Report post Posted January 29, 2013 Mt Ord certainly has that reputation but it happens all over.......... was up there saturday... didn't stay long.... maybe til 9am. visibility was about 100yds at best and 50ft at worst. came back before noon to see if the visibility changed and nope.... left around 1pm and only saw 2 vehicles while I was there. a chevy truck color model unknown and an orange H3 drove by when I was sitting at the entrance. he came out shortly after. I only went as far as the corral when you first top out. Thieves suck! sorry they took your stuff.... I try never to leave my blind for that reason. Santana Outdoors Report post Posted January 29, 2013 It is a shame and not like it used to be at all. Ive had my camera up high in a tree, I thought was out of range. But because they could not steal it, they decided to spray paint over my lens with black paint, destroying my cam. Because of the changes and how people are today, I always pack a 1911with several mags, especially when archery hunting. The most dangerous predators out there in the woods are on two legs these days. Sorry that happened to you, but it sure is a good reminder to all of us of how people are operating these days. GotBowAz Report post Posted February 18, 2013 I sat in a tree a few years ago above a spring up there. Then a kid in shorts come skippity do dah through the woods down that steep hill and out of site below the spring. About 30 minutes later he came back out with a white plastic shopping bag full of something. I had no clue at the time what it was. Then i got pulled over by a highway patrol headed down to camp as I was watching a doe on the side of the road. He asked me if i had seen anything strange up where i was hunting. When I told him what I saw he got all excited. Turns out someone tapped into the ranchers black water pipe that I helped a small part of putting in at the spring and made a pot garden. Last time I stepped foot in the area. The deer aint worth it, you guys can have it. My hunting partner that lives right there in Sunflower still hunts it though. Same trip i helped a guy that rolled his SUV half way down the hill, had to call in rescue for him, also had a mountain lion come under my tree the day before that kid showed up. Found out the Sheriff in charge knew of my tree stand, my partners tree stand and the pot patch as they had been watching it. She called me and talked to me about the kid I saw then proceeded to tell me about my tree stands sites etc. etc.. And I wondered why I wasn't seeing any deer!
