Ward's Outfitters 2013 Starting Out Great.

Recommended Posts

No the Bait ban will not hurt us next year , our clients harvested 31 Coues bucks and one mule deer buck this season. 6 of those Coues deer bucks were harvested on Bait. The others were harvested on scrapes and natural travel routes. As for leaving some for next year keep in mind we hunt all of southern Arizona. We have two base camps and clients and guides might travel 20minutes to their blinds or tree stands and others at times will travel over 1.5 hours to other areas every day. I find it funny that someone would come onto this site to post about baiting and it’s their first post. The same happened on bowsite, but the cowards never use their real name and hide behind their key boards.

On another note I have designed a salt based product that Coues deer can't resist even in the winter months. I have it for sale and its legal according to the new proposed rule because it's salt based and it's also available to the cattle guys!!!

First things first, my name is Mason Cochran. Want that known before I even start here. Second, I dont agree with you pushing back on a guy asking you a question about your baiting. I for one have no real problem with a baiting ban. I do however not believe for a minute that baiting is not a huge part of your operation. If it werent why would you been totally against AZ G&F putting a ban on it. If that werent enough, you have put the time and effort into making a BAIT that is "salt based that the deer cant resist even in winter months". I have been an Arizona resident my whole life and I love the oppurtunity to get to hunt with my rifle & my bow in the same year. I do know that the G&F will have no choice but to continue to cut back our hunting opportunities

In the future when outfitters are putting up kill numbers like this. Im not saying you dont work hard at it, but to say that baiting has nothing to do with that is seriously hard to believe. I tried not to post anything about this for several days but it just ate on me too much...I just hate to see our future oppurtunities lost to support someones business to be able to boast 90% success on coues deer

Im sure Im gonna get hammered for voicing my opinion on this, and thats fine, but I honestly think these kind of posts and these kind of numbers are going to ultimately lead to alot less oppurtunity for all of us in the future. Again, the name is Mason so I dont get accused of being a coward...

Wow a guy works his butt off to help his clients be successful and guys don’t like it.. Please keep in mind this is my business and I support my wife and 4 children with it. If we don’t provide great hunts for our clients then we are not doing our jobs.. I refuse to hide how successful our clients are because you don’t like the fact that we have high success rates. I didn’t see any of you complaining that we were 100 % with our rifle hunter’s last year (2012) 14 bucks in three hunts!!! Baiting is a big part of our operation I never said it wasn’t. But with that said AGAIN we only harvested 6 bucks out of 32 on Bait this season.

I don’t agree with the logic and non scientific reasoning behind the departments bait ban. I guarantee its only the beginning Trail cameras are next...And think about this if the department was so concerned about congregating animals then why do they bait and supplement animals???

No need to apologize for an 85% rate on Archery hunts. Nice work Wards. To me that just means you have a well run operation and you have good properties and or areas that you have scouted. As long as everthing is legal I don't care how you do it. You can put out 5 tons of bait and if the area doesnt hold deer you aren't going to see poop.

You can all give praise and act like all is well BUT dont come on here whining when G&F has no choice but to permit archery and we will have forever lost our oppurtunity to hunt so liberally here in Az. Steven, I have no idea why you dislike our G&F so much. Its actually kind of confusing to me, you get to guide what appears to be an unlimited amount of hunters each year and you have a whole lot of time to hunt each year, yet you want to gripe and complain about everything they do. The whole baiting thing is a joke, the way I always understood the law for my ehole life was that it was illegal but thats my opinion. There are always people who try and push the envelope and look for "grey areas" to give themselves an advantage. You all know as well as I do that with our deer numbers where they are and with outfitters pushing the harvest up to such high levels we will lose our over the counter oppurtunities. You should seriously think about this Steven instead of bashing G&F when you force their hand. And for information purposes, I hunt the same.units that Wards Outfitters hunts and have for 30+ years, the deer numbers are nowhere near where they used to be. This only drives my belief that the numbers you are boasting about, are unsustainable and will end up not only hurting me and my families oppurtunities but yours as well.

Great job on your success in the archery season. That is awesome. You can't make everyone happy. Here we go again with another person bashing another person. I said it before and I will say it again it irritates the crap out of me. Mace, this is this mans business and his success depends on putting food on the table for his family. Have you ever thought about how much time and effort he puts in to putting out bait, hanging cameras and getting everything ready to have his clients have the best experince possible? I have never hunted over bait in my whole life but it doesn't mean I'm against it. If I was an outfitter I would do everything possible ( that's legal) in my power, to make my clients successful. I just don't understand where all this negativity comes from, when all of us love the same thing. The great sport of hunting. Great job Wards Outfitters and I hope yourcontinue to get your clients on great animals for many years to come.
