S&W M&P.40

Recommended Posts

Took the new M&P .40 to the indoor gun range this morning to get some practice and see how it shoots. The gun is well balanced, feels good in the hand under fire, and was flawless under rapid fire, even with a hot barrel. Pretty accurate, even if it did like the 155 grain more than the 180? I would like to put some night sights or fiber optics on it. Overall, I feel it is a very good defense weapon.

Also bought a Blackhawk Serpa CQC concealment holster for it ($50). Great holster that rides a little higher on the belt to help keep it under the shirt. I like the active retention lever. I used to work for Blackhawk, but have never owned any of their products until now.

Brent,

It probably doesn't matter to you, but those Serpa holsters wear on the finish of the gun... My Kimber 1911 has some wear signs on it becaue of the Serpa I have for it. Glad the gun is working well for you.

Yeah..I know what you mean. I have seen a few guns owned by people using these holsters, and they do get some finish wear on them. That is the biggest drawback of an otherwise nice holster setup.

Find you a Don Hume leather holster and be set! I bought one for my XD40 and it has seen a lot of use on hunts etc and works great. It shows a little wear, but I like it a lot. Ill be getting one for my 1911's.

If going leather, I go with FIST holsters. They do custom order jobs and have some options. Just make sure you google "FIST holsters" so you don't end up in XXX land.

If you don't want leather and have some coin to spend the Safariland is handy. I'm on my second and it has had no ill effect on the finish of my gun. It has a hood and the thumb release for the locking system is right where it needs to be for drawing.

I heard many good things about Serpas, only bad is if the locking mechanism breaks your gun is stuck in the holster.

In the end a gun is a tool and I feel meant to have wear from carry. That means you actually have it when you need it. I don't see the point in buying a expensive wall decorative piece.
