Bolt action .223 recommendations

Recommended Posts

My dad would like to find a .223 cal rifle that he can use for target shooting. He would like to have a rifle that shoots sub moa, and has a bull barrel. What rifles do you guy's recommend? I really like the Tikka T3, but they are almost impossible to find. What do you think about the Savage 111 series? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If he wants a 1:12 twist i would say go with a remington SPS. if he wants to shoot the heavier grain bullets go with a savage in 1:9. Ive have a couple of savage model 10s (predator hunter and PC) and i like them. I used to have a remington VTR in 1:9 but i sold it. i wish I still had it actually. i like remingtons better but for the money you cant beat the savages.

Remington 700 sps.
+1

Bought my dad the remington 700 SPS 22-250 SS a few months ago. (I know it's not the 223, right now you can find ammo for 22-250)

Great gun! $500ish at sportsmans.

My dad found a good deal on the Savage 12 BTC SS and couldn't keep his hand out of his wallet! I'll let you know how it shoots! Thanks for all the help and advise.

Savages are good shooters... Pretty much all of them. I recently picked up a Tikka T3 Stainless 7mm-08 at Sportsmans in Phoenix.

You won't regret the savage. I have put together a few model 12s for friends and every one of them will shoot half inch or less.

A little late to chime in, but +1 on the Savage. I've seen some "dirt poor" savages in .223 with cheap optics that shoot at the level of some high dollar bench rigs on prarie dogs. I'm talking $350 including the scope, that flat-out shoot like a lazer beam. If you could see more than an inch of the p-dog at 350 yards or less, it was toast - every time.

I bought my brother a 223 savage edge for 279.99, added a scope and it shoots sub moa. It's a cheaper rifle but it shoots lights out on coyotes. I like the model sevens, the are compact and shoot good.
