richardoutwest Report post Posted January 14, 2013 Can someone please explain to me how it is possible to apply on-line for your Javelina tag (or any tag for that matter) and get your second choice when there are a whole bunch of tags left over? This seems to be a more common practice in the past few years. Can someone explain to me how you can go to the AZGFD and purchase a left over tag and receive a tag that is more than the alloted amount set forth by the AZGFD commission? I have pics of three of these. Is the AZGFD just doing what ever they want anymore? i can not get an answer to justify there actions. Is the AZGFD hurting so bad for money they are allowing more than the alloted amount of tags? I guess that explains the TWO tags now? This may only be a Javelina tag, but what about when you do a bunch of scouting for deer, elk, antelope and this happens. You could be out a whole lot of time and money not to mention the possibility of a great trophy.
1uglydude Report post Posted January 14, 2013 The answer to your first question can be found in any number of threads on how the 20% bonus pass works. You can search for them and get some good explanations. Basically, if you have any bonus points at all, be careful when you apply for pig hunts or some of the early whitetail hunts. Your best bet is to just list your first choice twice if your first choice is an easy to draw hunt. As to why you have a tag number that is higher than what is alloted for the unit, I asked the same question of the lady at the front desk at the Mesa office. She said that tag numbers printed on leftover tags don't necessarily match up with the total number of tags actually issued through the system. They don't track how many tags are left by the number printed on the tag...not sure why...but it's a quirk in their system and they're aware of it. They appear to keep track of total tags issued after the draw in some other way.

They appear to keep track of total tags issued after the draw in some other way.<< This occurs when permits are drawn during the normal process then not actually issued. For example, someone applies online with a CC, paying only the $7.50 app fee. But when the drawing occurs, either the credit limit on that card had been reached, the card has expired or the charge is rejected for some other reason. When that happens, it kills the # for that permit and a new one is added above the allotted number. So if there were 500 permits initially, the next one for that incident will be 501.
richardoutwest Report post Posted January 14, 2013 Thanks guys, since there is no governing body except the Governor, it is okay to accept the word of the AZGFD. I get it, but when you can call three different offices and get three different answers, it makes me wonder sometimes. They didnt tell you how they keep track? CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 14, 2013 I am going to close this topic since you have a duplicate going in the campfire section and it has more replies. Please don't open multiple threads with the same questions, it gets confusing and redundant. here is a link to your other thread, let's try and keep the info organized into one thread please http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/37674-whats-going-on-with-the-azgfd/?do=findComment&comment=354524
