Use of scents and calls

Recommended Posts

Hunting coues deer with a bow is always a challenge whether you're doing a spot and stock or sitting in a blind or stand. I'm fairly new to bow hunting but have been rifle hunting for years, so I thought I would post this topic and see what I can get. Has anyone ever had really good luck or can swear up and down by the use of scents or calls while bow hunting for coues? I have gotten the attention of bucks before by rattling but its only happened once, so I thought it would be fun to hear some of your guys tactics and things you like to do that you would be willing to share.

I had a whitetail come by this year within 30 seconds of rattling but would never break cover. It just made a half circle around my stand at 60-80 yrds never letting me see if it was a buck or doe. The buck I shot was pushing a doe by my stand after I had rattled 30 minutes prior, so dont know if they were around due to rattling or not. I have rattled and had does run full sprint to my tree.

Scents have not worked for me at all I have tried at least 4-5 different doe and mock scrape type scents and left them within view of my cam and not even had a deer investigate the smell. I also took a leak out of my treestand into the snow 25 minutes before I shot the buck in the picture. My 2 cents on scents.
