654321 Report post Posted January 15, 2013 Coach, did you ever think that maybe just maybe the majority of hunters are for the ban and maybe the handful of priveledged decision makers you speak of spoke for the majority. this is a great site with good people but it is a very very small representation of az hunters could just be that most hunters in this state don't agree with the views and opinions of those on this site. 190000 plus license holders 6000 or so members. The problem Game and Fish would never know if hunters supported it or not, because they didn't bother to ask outside of a formality required by their legislation. No survey, no request for input, no research. Just a handful of guys limited to 3 minutes each while the commission ate its lunch prior to passing their pre-determined unanimous vote. I'm pretty sure there were 30 days where you could write letters send e-mails, ect. AZGFD banned baiting they are the scum of the earth lets go to another state. Guess what cant hunt Co., NM, Ca, Id. Mont. Go to TX. if you have some property or money. You can try Ut. but they give a huge amount of their tags to SFW. go back east just be careful you may get some tainted CWD meat ID allows baiting for some species. I used to live there and have a life time license. According to Idaho law, the use of bait to hunt or take big game animals other than black bear is unlawful. Bait is defined as any substance placed to attract big game animals, except liquid scent for deer and elk. The use of salt placed to attract elk or deer for hunting is considered bait and is illegal. Hunting over salt placed by someone else, for instance, as part of a livestock operation, is also illegal. Hope all you were hunting were bears on bait Not AZ tax dollars, but federal tax dollars! Any time that we can get a small portion of our tax dollars back from the black hole (feds) then that is a good thing. Be careful, those Fed $ come with some major strings attached ie Mexican Wolf Recovery Program Every wildlife agency in this country survives by federally matched funds Above all guys lets remember that we are all hunters here. If we don't support each other then we can kiss all of our opportunities goodbye. Guns, tags, forests there are people out there who want to take all of it. We have got to find a way not to kick the chair out from under each other all the time.
Flatlander Report post Posted January 15, 2013 I'm pretty sure there were 30 days where you could write letters send e-mails, ect. Did you ever see those letters or emails? I never did. Did they ever read them? We have no idea because there is no accountability. According to Idaho law, the use of bait to hunt or take big game animals other than black bear is unlawful. Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted January 16, 2013 Gino, I want to thank you personally for taking such a passionate stance. You stood up to the bureaucrats, you sent out emails, you got really involved and made your voice heard. On the flip-side, you mentioned that those who had not undertaken this battle should not complain about its outcome. While I revere you for taking a stand, there are a lot of us who have already walked that path. These commission meetings, asking for public input are nothing more than a dog-and-pony show. They proved that during the discourse in this last meeting. They are obliged, maybe legally, to let you express your opinion, but their ears are closed, their mind already made up. I felt very passionate about the tag re-allocation in certain units years ago, my friends called “The end of hunting, as we know it”… I went to meetings, I expressed my concern… At the end of the day, they don’t give one rat’s butt. They are smarter than us, they are calling the shots, and not one bit of a life-long Arizona hunter trying to “educate” them is going to sway the vote one way or another. True enough Pal... I totally agree... and my frustration was really meant for our fellow hunters that "look down their noses" at those who bait... I don't care if they are picking on Muzzleloader hunters or traditional bow hunters or any other kind of hunter... WE ALL should fight as one and defend our freedoms!! They, just take "One" at a time as the others watch!! We have become Sheeple... and just shrug, "Awe, it don't affect me none so I could care less..." Just like our 2nd amendment rights... even though hand guns kill far more folks than "military style" weapons they (Feds) are going after the weakest leg of gun owners because they can start the "divide and conquer" game... I will fight for ALL gun rights... Just like I will fight for ALL sportsmans rights. It just frustrates the H-E-L-L outta me that folks can't speak with one voice, can't support the rights of others even if it isn't their "problem" or their style of hunting... I have seen the tears of joy in many children's eyes as they collected their first trophy (over bait) and that made every effort I made in this fight worth it... Those kids didn't "cheat", they WON! We lost that for future kids... the video games will be more fun in the house where it is warm if they are not gunna see as many deer... mark my words... And to the guy that thought I was likely there cuz of the money end of this... let me clear up that stat for you... I have been involved/ aided in the harvest of over 30 coues & several javi's in the last 10+ years... and I recruited over 2 dozen entry level hunters to chasing coues, overseen thousands of deer-less hours affield and many success stories, yet many of my recruits don't hunt over bait anymore but rather became addicted to the hunt because of bait. In all those years of helping folks successfully hunt these spooky lil' deer with a bow I only did it for money on 3 of them... I have turned down archery coues hunters many times... Infact turned one down since the Commission voted... an older fellow called wanting a chance at a coues before the laws change and I said, simply, "No thanks." Pretty sure I was there because I care about our rights not about the money...
