swhunter Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Hello everyone, I was lucky enough to have drawn a january archery tag in this unit (mule deer). This will be my first shot at an archery deer during the rut after 3 years of chasing them in the early season. I'm not looking for honey holes just some places to start scouting. Good luck to all who drew tags. Thank You Trav
Kevin Report post Posted August 14, 2006 Coatimundi, Welcome to the site!. What part of NM are you from? To scout for a January hunt from now until then I would focus on finding does. If there are good numbers of does (especially does with fawns) the bucks will be around come January. I'd pay special attention the area that burned in the Skates fire if I had a tag in 24. Good luck, Kevin
Andy Report post Posted August 14, 2006 I went to school at Western for a semester and spent some time hunting in september in Unit 24 and I would always go north of Pinos Altos. I ran into several bucks. Hopefully I didn't give anyone's secret spots away.

Hooked_on_Coues Report post Posted August 15, 2006 I think with 24 you can give away all your secrets and it will still be a crapshoot. That is a thick sombitch. I saw a great buck there last year but no way to shoot at him. FIX BAYONETS!
