Polaris550 Report post Posted January 11, 2013 I have been hunting an area now all January. Its been mostly out of a tree stand. There is sign, tracks, scrape lines everywhere. Someone just shot a monster out a tree not more than 500 yards from my stand. I try to spend every day off, and morning I can to sit. Passed up on a couple bucks early January and it was HOT all week. Now all deer seem to have gone active only at night... Anyone else getting irritated with a bunch of close calls? I enjoy this site and forum because seeing others trophies make me remind myself it is possible. Good Luck to all out in the field!!!
CWpredator Report post Posted January 11, 2013 White tail are hard to pattern. Now that the rutt is on its an act of god to pattern them. I've been watching 2 bucks for all the off season now and now they are rutting . They don't exist on my camera anymore. Welcome to white tail hunting. az_shooter Report post Posted January 11, 2013 A friend and myself have been chasing coues this January and we have also found scrapes and heavy trails and sign everywhere but are having trouble locating bucks. We to have found evidence of rut activity at night and have sat in trees for hours not seeing anything where we had found fresh sign. I even found a monster coues and wasn't able to get on him so I backed off and didn't spook him and went back the very next day and never saw a single deer. All I can say is that's coues deer and even though we haven't strung anything yet I still love the excitement of how nothing can be happening and in a matter of seconds you're off to the races trying to get around on bucks and as quickly as it started it all just stops and your back to nothing again. Welcome to coues deer, they are a rush.

couesgirl84 Report post Posted January 11, 2013 It seems the rut has started late, so hopefully it will be picked up by the weekend... So, don't give up... But I feel the same way... I was hunting all last week and the weekend, and seen some nice bucks, but they get spooked so easy...So, I will be at it again tomorrow. Good luck.

Polaris550 Report post Posted January 12, 2013 So true gentleman. I've only shot one coues with a bow and it was on water. Tons with rifle. But as we all know, nothing compares to drawing back with a bow. I'll be back at it until the 31st. Nice to hear the similar stories.
