Snapshot Report post Posted January 6, 2013 I am seriously considering purchasing a S&W M&P 45 or maybe a 40? Do any of you own one, or have experience with this gun that you could share? Thanks!

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 I bought one on a whim from a police supply company and don't care for it. Nicely made handgun, but i greatly prefer my xd, or even a Glock.
Snapshot Report post Posted January 6, 2013 I have had a S&W 4006 in .40 caliber as one of my defense gun for years. It's a nice gun, but heavy. I was also considering the XD
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 You will not regret going xd over the Smith and Wesson, in my opinion.
rossislider Report post Posted January 6, 2013 I have an XD tactical 45, a Beretta 92FS 9mm, and just got the wife an XD subcompact 40 for Christmas. I really like each gun for its own purpose and reason. I want to get myself a sub compact to conceal as my other two semi-autos are fairly large. Since my wife already has the XD subcompact, I was thinking about the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield in 40 caliber. Never shot one but of the subcompact 40s it seems to be the lightest and smallest. It only holds 7 rounds but the hand grip is not as fat. Most guys who I have talked to love how it fits in their hand. It is also the only subcompact 40 I have seen with a thumb safety. But if you are not looking for concealment in your 45, I'd go with the XD tactical. I love mine!
Snapshot Report post Posted January 6, 2013 2 years ago when I worked for Blackhawk in Bozeman,Mt. They had a a couple safes with all the guns that they manufactured holsters for (firing pins removed), I got to handle many different guns when quality control would test them for holster fit. S&W, Glock, Sig, Xd, Ruger,1911 models, etc. It was interesting. The holsters we manufactured were more for law enforcement, and tactical. Not so much for concealed carry. MRL1984 Report post Posted January 6, 2013 From fondling all, shot a XD and glock. I am leaning toward an M&P if I buy a pistol of the Tupperware genre. The glock for me is the worst gun on the planet and I hate them with a passion. Of course that is just my opinion. Though I carry a Glock everyday, and any day will be getting a new Gen 4. Most of my opinion is based on countless rounds fired at the range. The gen 4 is not getting much love from PD's, I have heard that a department or two is dumping theirs after a couple months. The one I know for sure is going to the M&P. The XD non m model was not my kind of pistol, high slide to hand ratio, which for me throws off the quick site acquisition. I hear nothing but great things about the XDm over the original, but have only seen and never touched one myself as They don't seem to stay in stock long enough to. The M&P gets a ding for not having a short reset trigger, it is nearly all the way back to the first pull. I have been told they have a kit for that. Feel and point ability I give to the M&P as much as I wanted to hate it for being a Non-revolver from Smith. In the end I'm a Sig guy, give me any flavor you want of a 220 and I will be happy as can be, so I basically hate all polymer wonder type pistols. Though the USPs I've owned were nice, but way too expensive for what they were.

MRL1984 Report post Posted January 7, 2013 For me, my xd comes up at almost the prefect sight picture. I carry a hk everyday and can shoot it but don't love it. That is why you go with what works for you. It's subjective like that you don't like the M&P and I hate Tupperware. Is a metal frame really better? No, but I like it. I will say that federal issue HK abomination is worse than a Glock.
cramerhunts Report post Posted January 7, 2013 I have the XDM 45 and believe it is the best pistol I have ever owned. I know it is all about personal preference but I have not had anyone pick it up that didn't love it.
