Florida Mountains Ibex

Recommended Posts

Absolutely awesome video Zac. Huge amount of respect for you and what you accomplished during this hunt. And to capture it all on film and share it the way you did is just phenominal. I've been in MX for over a week and this was the first thread I checked when I got back. I feel for you on losing King Kong bro. I hope that you somehow get to wrap your hands around that stud's horns someday soon. Thanks again for sharing your story. You really are the man.

Thanks Kevin. Aoudads in 9 months!

Amazing news! I was able to get in contact with the guide who saw "Kong" the day I lost him. He's been guiding and wasn't aware that I was on this quest.

Let me start by saying he's not only an selfless, giving person but he shares the same level of passion that I do for these ibex. We spoke for several hours and realized that we were looking for "Kong" in the wrong drainage. He was a half-mile south of where I searched for 6 days.

The guide not only feels that "Kong" is still in the chutes he last saw him in but has offered to go up there with me and try to close the book on this amazing billy!

I contacted NMGFD this morning and am in the process of acquiring a possession permit and other documentation to make it completely legal if we are able to locate him!

I will be back the first weekend in Feb. Temps have been climbing out there and chances are very good birds will have found him by then!

Thanks guys! I worked it all out with NMGFD and I can legally locate and retrieve him. Just very specific steps, documentation, communication etc must be followed. Heading back in a week! I hope the birds are flying!!!

I've put my heart and soul into finding a wounded animal of trophy caliber before, it's the worst experience a bowhunter can go through..... Not finding the animal stays with you forever. Good luck on the last leg of your journey.

Yes, we found him alive! Had a muzz hunter on him but couldn't seal the deal. He looks really good. Limping a bit but keeping up with the band. Bitter sweet. The shot went through his front shoulder, brisket and low neck and missed all vitals.

That is a bitter sweet ending. Commendable of you to stick with him and not try to harvest another animal. Well done, I am glad you found him one way or the other.
