Campfire cooking

Recommended Posts

There is a good site for camp fire or charcoal cooking at www.chuckwagondiner.com that has some good food for camping. We are going to try a few of the ones for kids to cook. I think that i could gain a bit of weight eating this way but for camp outs would be ok.

That's a pretty cool website. It made me hungry to be out in the hills and enjoyin' some good ol' dutch oven cookin'. Has anyone ever tried makin' dutch oven' peach cobbler with 7up? If not, your missin' out. It's pretty darn good.

I've tried it cochranj! Now my kids give me grief if I don't use it!

Flag, if cochranj is referring to the same thing I am, it's when you make cobbler in a dutch oven using a cake mix, you sub 7-up or Sprite for the water in the recipe. Makes for a nice sweet cobbler! :D

Yeah that's pretty much it. I would rather have dutch oven cobbler that way over any other. It really hits the sweet tooth's spot. Don't be too generous with the 7up. It can get soupy. You'll have to tinker around with it to suit your specific desire. OOOHHH boy, I can't wait until huntin' season. My mouth is waterin' already.

I love to cook in the dutch ovens. I try a little pecans on the top of mine. For those who like nuts--If you put the pecans in with the last bit of the cake mix and coat them really good by shaking it up together. Then put the pecans right on top --they wont burn because of the cake mix coating but they do get crunchy and it tasts great my family loves it now they wont have it any other way. : ;)
