Red Rabbit Report post Posted April 27, 2004 Should I get drawn for 36c again, I am considering backpacking into a canyon and leaving the truck behind. Have you, or do you know of someone, had camp or vehicle being victimized while out hunting the past few years in unit 36c or b? While I have not had any problems during the last several hunts, I am becoming increasingly leary. Doug/RedRabbit
Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted April 27, 2004 Red Rabbit I have hunted 36C for the last 7 or 8 years and only twice I have seen illegals. The first time about 5 years ago they never new I was there, the second time was last year and when they saw me they run/hike the mountain faster than a big horn sheep,so no problems. Several times I had give this advice to many hunters:do not hunt alone I know is not always possible but we must try. If I happen to be lucky like you to get the 36C tag and if you need a hunting partner you let me know ok? Red Rabbit have you ever heard of something called "paranoia"? May the Lord protect/bless you all the time...Amen. Thank you. Ernesto C.
Diamondbackaz Report post Posted April 27, 2004 I would not leave a vehicle unattended for any extended period of time. Have someone drop you off and come back to pick you up if you back pack camp. I hunt 36B all the time and I avoid camping in an area with a high traffic of illegals. Stay away from trails, wash beds, and areas trashed with garbage. Red Rabbit Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Ernesto- Paranoia? Isn't that a r&r song? I have been hunting alone the past few years as I have put in individually and my friends have other unit choices. I posted the same Q? on MM where Kirk Kelso and a BP agent had some enlightening info about the traffic. Doug/RedRabbit
Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted April 30, 2004 There is no doubt about it my fellow co-member Red Rabbit that the illegal inmigration is a PROBLEM so is the terrorists, drugs and drug dealers, homicide, unemployment, racist people and the list keeps going on and on. Please understand that I'm not in favor or defending any body in here,I truly believe that if an individual is here illegally does not belongs here period. Both countrys in these case Mexico and U.S.A. are doing a tremendous amount of effort to fight the problem. There is and will be a lot more border patrol agents on the border, even local and state authoryties are in the alert mode, dont be sorprise if you see in the border undercover agents form customs,DEA,event from the USFWS. Mexico has Military and Federal checkpoints on their highways, they detain hundreds and hundreds of people every day from Guatemala,Salvador etc etc.even people from the other continent. But why are they going to detain a mexican national? That's why most of the people stop by the Border Patrol is from Mexico I'll say about 70% the rest from other countries. I mentioned before that if something bad is going to happen to me it can be anywhere,at the local store or bank, while driving, hunting or even at home so I'm not going to be worry 24hrs a day and not sleeping just because what if if tomorrow I'm dead?? I thank the Lord for every breathe I take, for every day He lets me leave. We as citizens we must support or local, state and federal authoryties in every way possible,my respect to all of them and to all of you too. May the Lord Bless your Home and Life always...Amen. Amanda I know I should not be talking of this here because this is not the place, this is a HUNTING SITE so if you want to delete my post please go ahead and I apologize in advance. Ernesto C. Guest Guest_runningbird Report post Posted April 30, 2004 I have hunted 36c and b a few times. and have seen quite a few travelers. my first time in 36c my travel trailer was broke into in the a.m. while I was out. only food and water and milk were taken. After that I started leaving water out in old 1 gallon milk containers, probably about 1/3 of the time when Iv'e come back to camp its been gone. If someone needs water or food I'd help them out wether they are legal or not.
couesdiehard Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Red Rabbit I have hunted unit 36B almost every year for the last ten with a group of eight to ten guys. We have noticed an increase yearly in the illegal traffic of humans and drugs but we have only had one bad incident where one vehicle had a window broken and a knife, water and chips were taken. On the bright side, several hundred dollars worth of tools were left untouched. I would be cautious but not paranoid. I see that someone stated they have left water jugs out at their camp and that doesn't seem like a bad idea. If you have ever seen what these folks go through to get a job in the States you probably wouldn't begrudge them some food or water either. As with every kind of group there are some bad customers out there, but most of these guys don't want trouble with you especially knowing you are armed. The drug-runners are well armed and organized but they don't want a confrontation of any kind as it would be bad business. It would not hurt to have someone drop you off or make camp where you want to park and hike in. On the other hand I'll bet you would also think twice about leaving your vehicle unattended at your local city or county park.
coueshunter Report post Posted May 19, 2004 Redrabbit: I hunt down that way and have for the past 3 years. Unlike Ernesto, I have seen the traffic increase accross the border and have spoke to many people about the risks associated with the Drug Traffic. This is where most of the problems may occur for hunters. Just beware of anyone with a backpack who is not a hunter. The mules typically run in two's and probably wont bother anyone if you stay out of their way. The 36 units really have some major problems with litter, drug trafficking and people trafficking so keep your eyes open and dont leave vehicles/campers/tents unattended for long periods of time........Allen....
