Elkhunter1 Report post Posted December 15, 2012 Out scouting yesterday for the last hunt of the year and I almost stepped on this little guy. Guys don't worry!!! This little guy is a Bull Snake (Gopher) Although my name is Stephen, I don't pick up poisonous things that bite. If this guy is still out the killer kind are also. Coach Report post Posted December 15, 2012 LOL, there's a whole lot of these snakes. Back when I lived in Oklahoma, we were a lot more particular, I guess because seeing a snake was a daily occurance. Bull Snake, Chicken Snake, Corn Snake, Rat Snake, Water snake all became generic names for the non-venimous snakes that were so common. We had our fair share of true vipers though, Copperheads, Cottonmouths, Timber rattlers so big you would think they came from a movie. I used to have a newspaper clipping from Adair County in Oklahoma of timber rattler so big, the guy running the tractor thought he had run over a log. It was over 8 feet long and at it's belly was more than two feet wide, skinned. I sure wish I could find that newspaper clipping again. Last time I saw it, it was clipped from the local newspaper in a BBQ joint close to lake Tenkiller. Just talking about it reminds me so much of my youth in those woods. The book, "Where the Red Fern Grows" came from the same place I grew up. So many memories...

Small world...I lived in Tahlequah for a couple of years and I think I remember that same newspaper clipping in that same BBQ joint.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted December 17, 2012 Hey Elkhunter, fyi, I had a snake specialist from AGFD look at your pics and he confirmed that it is a Gopher Snake. In fact, he said it was born in late summer of this year. He says the size it what tells him it was a young one...they are 11-12 inches at birth.
