We hunted unit 8 as well, didn't see the plane in question, we hunted up closer to white horse lake. I do believe radioing down from any kind of aircraft is illegal, pretty sure I read that in the regs, as for road hunters we might all consider the fact that some day we might not be able to get around as good as we once did, and consider would you give up going out into the woods if you could not be as mobile as you are now? we hunt a few spots that are less than 1/4 to 1/2 mile from magor dirt roads, we hardly ever run into other hunters while in the field and seen game 95% of the time all the while hearing road hunters driving Back and fourth, thier road hunting keeps most game held up just out of thier sight and right in our stomping grounds, so I say bring on the road hunters, learn to adapt and use it in your favor.

I was in unit 8, and I also saw the plane you are talkinig about. It was flying around in circles by round mountain and sycamore canyon.

Road hunter helped me out today. I spotted some deer and moved into about 250 yards. A doe had me pinned and decided to bed down for a staredown. After about 30 minutes of hanging out and taking it easy, dude in a ranger cruises within 100 yards of these deer including a 4x4 mulie and never even stops. The doe stood up and took her eyes off me. I was able to get hidden while she was distracted... The ranger drove back by again and still didn't see these deer... I did a mile loop to drop down on the deer but shifty wind got me busted and the buck trotted off. Wouldn't have been possible without road hunters... I didn't know that road was there to be honest, I was at least 2 miles from truck. It is what is...

In the 6a late bull elk hunt I have seen a white and red plane fly the unit Every single day, and that has happend on every hunt I have been on.

What I can't stand is the people who sit around and pass judgement. Who are you to judge what type of hunting anyone is doing? As stated above, I'm sure that if you were on the road to get to your favorite glassing spot and saw a nice deer, you would just say oh well I did not walk the ethical number of miles so I won't go after him. What a joke. When I see other hunters on the road, I see them for a few seconds, and do not check up or in on them to see what they are up to. I simply wave to my fellow outdoorsman and continue on my way. Those road hunters paid for a tag just like you, they put a lot of money into the economy, and spent a lot of time away from their families/work to enjoy their time out doing what they like to do. Or, they may be disabled, or old, or sick, or anything. It's none of your ethical policeman business! Another thing I cant stand is men that act like babies. If everyone was walking through the hills, I bet your post would be aimed at those who dont glass, or those who are in "your" spot, or use salt, or sit water holes, or anyone who doesnt do things the way that you deem appropriate. Stop bashing your fellow sportsman!!!!

To a degree - everyone here is a road hunter. if some would rather sit and drive than walk- for whatever reason - get over it!

 

if you are watching for animals while driving to or during or from a hunting spot - guess what?

 

I'd rather have them drive and keep going than distrupt the areas i hunt !-- They can and sometimes do move the animals for my benifit!

 

So let those who want to sit and drive enjoy their hunt as much as you enjoy packin into remote areas!

 

If they are bothering you - you are not far enough away from the road!!

My guess he's not talking about the actual fact of road hunting. He is probally a self obsorbed ahole that feels he is better than everyone else and if they dont hunt like he does they are wasting a tag that he deserves more than anyone else.

Take/Hunt From A Vehicle

(A.R.S. 17-301 B, R12-4-319) Pages 110 and 128

No person may take wildlife from a motor vehicle

(including watercraft and aircraft), except

as permitted by Commission Order, and under

the provisions of the Challenged Hunter Access

Mobility Permit Commission Rule (R12-4-217).

“Take,” as defined by law, includes pursuing,

shooting, hunting and killing wildlife. You are

unlawfully using a vehicle to take wildlife if

you intentionally drive around until you see

the animal you wish to harvest and then make

an attempt to take. “Road hunting” is illegal;

so is pursuing wildlife with a vehicle, chasing

or heading off moving wildlife with a vehicle,

and driving off-road to get closer to wildlife.

You do not have to shoot from the vehicle to

be in violation.

 

So, the way I read it, Game and Fish officers are able to determine your "intent" while you're out driving around, and if they "feel" that you're intentionally looking for animals, they can write you a ticket. How in the world can this type of law be enforced? Game and Fish officers are now able to know my intent before I do something.......Sounds crazy to me, a lot like the movie Minority report!!! We don't have to actually shoot to be in violation. I've heard they can stop you if they feel your driving too fast or too slow, or if you stop a lot and look out your window. Or maybe they stop you because you drive up and down a road a few times.........according to G&F, this type of behavior must mean you're intentionally hunting from the road, and they can write you a ticket if they feel like it. This a bunch of crap!!! Maybe I'm driving slowly because my shocks are bad, or I've got a really bad headache and don't want to hit the bumps so hard.

 

I'm not one to bash the Game and Fish officers or department, In fact I respect and support them, but this kind of BS needs to go away. There's no way to enforce it, no way to exactly outline whats legal and what's not. It leaves most hunters confused and worried that they may get into trouble for something they didn't even do, and their fate rests in the hands of someone else who has been empowered to determine intent.

 

My advise to Game and Fish is to save the citations for those who break laws, and don't get caught up in determining the thoughts and intents of hunters' hearts.

The situation with flying elk, in units eight, nine and ten has gotten so out of hand. It's not even funny. Apparently, it doesn't seem to be a big issue to fish and game. As it has become so obvious a blind person could find them.
