Mocha1545 Report post Posted December 12, 2012 Congrats. Thanks for the great story and pictures. I know your PA was smiling down on you the whole hunt. Hope you made a steak for him as well. They sure looked good!
gbocardo Report post Posted December 14, 2012 Wow thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry to hear about your PA but what a tribute in his memory. I will say you sound a lot like me when it comes to hunting I am always packed in advance. All I have to do is Add water and snacks to my pack. And you are right the Gutless method is the best, been doing it for a while now. To make things a little smoother, if you have not invested in the Havlon Knife I highly recommend it. I quartered a whole elk with one blade. You will still need a good knife for the joints as the Havlon does not do well if torqued.
azcoues Report post Posted December 14, 2012 awesome story we were in the same unit but didnt fare as well but still had good times chasin them sneaky suckers warmest hunt i have ever been on for a latebull hunt 7 days only 3 bulls spotted no shots ,6a hasreally been pressured game and fish need to re-evaluate the tag allotment because there are way too many hunters ,that unit has taken a big hit on the herd the last 4 years, seems like everytime we would stop in at clints well all the success and nice bulls were coming out of units 5a and 5b,interesting,anyways glad you got yourself an elk for both you and PA. HuntAZ4life Report post Posted December 14, 2012 Awesome and successful trip in many ways... Glad that I could be involved with such a great group. This year defiantly had it's ups and down's for everybody but we finished on top. Can't wait to make some Mallard's hit the dirt!!!!

Wont be cleaning any animal without that Havlon. AZCoues your exactly right toooo much pressure. Dont get me wrong their is a ton of elk in 6A but 950 tags for the late hunt after almost 2k hunters have hunted the unit already is a bit much. Also like to thank everyone for their kind words and when I dont get drawn next year I will be looking for a fellow CWT member to hunt with.
