shortpants Report post Posted August 7, 2006 Awesome pics Ernesto. You are truly lucky to have quality time spent in the woods with such a great looking family. I'm just curious why none of you are talking about that couse buck drinking out of the river in the 1st scenic picture of that canyon. If you look close there's a buck down there that looks like he's allready in the 90's! Just keep looking till you see him.

azpackhorse Report post Posted August 7, 2006 Ernesto, I am impressed! You parked at the scenic pull-out in the Salt River Canyon (White Mountain side) and hiked all the way across the canyon and up onto the hill on the other side! I have often wondered what it would be like over there on that side! Very nice photos! Thanks!
.270 Report post Posted August 7, 2006 yep. that's looking east from the becker butte pull over. saw it just yersterday. we always called the black rattlesnakes "timber" rattlers. guess because they were always up high. i've seen rattlers at big lake before. but i think it's pretty rare that one makes it long up there. the "thing" you took the picture of i think is a combo snow/rain guage. not for sure how it works. there are several of em up there. nice ram too. looks like a nice time. billrquimby Report post Posted August 8, 2006 "Bill Q: two or three weeks ago we were camping up on the upper log. I have a picture of a black rattler just up the road from the bridge where you turn left to head towards Holly Lake. I believe this is above 8000 feet. I will get my son to post this picture..........Allen.........." Ouch! I've seen several rattlers in the lower ponderosa zone over the years, but I always figured they couldn't survive above about 8,000 feet. Don't know why, because I see water snakes all up and down the Little Colorado here in Greer and at Sheep's Crossing. Since I retired I've been running around here in shorts and sandals!
