Guest oneshot Report post Posted November 19, 2012 Bow season just ended, alot of nice bucks seen but never close enough to a shooter deer to release an arrow. I did see this buck the second time in my bowstand and I was hoping to shoot him with the bow but he fell to my rifle instead. I spotted a glint in the tall brush that turned out to be his antler tip but I couldnt get a clear look for 20mins+, eye strain was kicking in because I had to watch him through my rifle scope at 300yards, two steps either way and he would have been gone. A quartering toward me shot was all I had through a small opening in the brush, HIT. He ran 20yards and stopped broadside, another shot, HIT, then gone from view. After 10mins I walked down to the spot of the first HIT, the buck jumps up and staggers off through a swamp, I follow into the swamp and jump him again and send 2 sounders after him with no sign of contact. Now I cant find the deer or ANY blood. I made a last ditch effort and crossed a brook a check the other side for any sign. I saw a little scruff in the leaves and as my eyes followed the direction I thought the deer went, I see him laying down looking at me, Deer jumps up again, and after a quick, close shot I finaly put him down... After aprox, 1 1/2 hours after the first shot... Knowledge of the land and escape routes, and just staying focused on the task at hand got me this buck... What a hunt... Our group, 12 guys with a love of deer hunting have taken 6 8point bucks from this property so far this year...
