[Guest basket rack]

Anyone have any suggestions as where to begin scouting this unit? The tag is for the Dec. hunt. I have hunted this unit in years past for Javelina and slightly familiar with it. But it has been quite sometime ago.

I like the peloncillo mountains. The swisshelms are also good. The mountains around the beacon are also good.

I second the information sent by peloncillo, excellent spots. Another area worth a day of scouting is Devils Canyon Trail on the north end of the unit boundary on the south side of the Rucker Canyon Road. Usually a very good area during the Dec. hunt.

For a December tag I would spend some time in the Dos Cabezas. The access is tough but without very many tags for that hunt you could do really good, just try and avoid the Klumps.

Maybe check out the Pedrigosas in the southern corner of the unit. My padre shot a 107 in their two octobers ago

if you have a good, short wheel based 4X4 I would go straight to the top of the catchment area in the Dos Cabezas and hunt along the fenceline running northwest. Glass back down the mountain on both sides. There is a really big ridge that comes down off the mountain running toward the northeast that you could spend half a day glassing. I have seen bucks on that ridge everytime I have been there. CB
