Murphy's Guns in Tucson

Recommended Posts

Well as most of you recommended I took my gun to Murphy's for my muzzle brake, the work appears to be ok.....but those guys are lacking in customer service. I called to see if my gun was ready.....they never called me and it has been ready, go figure. Then when I'm talking to the guy (once I met him you could just tell he's an a$$hole) the guy acts like its a chore to give me a break down of the total cost. Then said "are you done" and hangs up on me. So when I go to pick up my gun tonight, I get home and my dry fire cap is missing.....my leupold scope box is missing (my fault for not asking when I was there on it....totally forgot) and when I talked to the manager or owner he goes and gets the a$$hole and automatically the guy starts defending himself.....I didn't even say a word.

Honest to goodness I was polite the whole time. Never even provoked the guy. You gotta love when a guy comes to work in a bad mood and just treats the world like crap. Needless to say I won't be doing any business there anymore. I sure hope I don't have any problems with my brake.

Scott ;)

I'll third that. Paying for a for a service and then feeling like they are doing me a favor............NO THANKS!

A while back I took my baby, a Springfeild 1911, in for a beaver tail safty to be installed after a recommendation from a local gunshop. After finally getting some ones attetion, it took a whlie, I said what it was I wanted to be done. The guy behind the counter said that they didn't have any aftermaket beaver tails to sell me  . I said that I had a Ed Brown BT safty that I wanted to them to install for me. I felt like I had to convice him to do the work. Granted they looked a bit busy so I gave them a few weeks. After three weeks with no word I called because I was getting ansy with out my carry gun and got the same sort of famous phone manners. Thru the complaining and "we are really busy" I heard him say it was done. I go to pick it up and when he hands me the gun I was shocked at how dirty it was so much so that I must have made a face but I did not say a word and he started to defend him self and getting all excited and raising his voice. I said "Hey hold up, I know I didn't ask the it to be cleaned but give me a brake" He went on and on I interupted him again and asked if it was done. He said yes and I walked out.

At least they are busy enough that they don't need any of my business.

I'll have to agree with this one.. I bought a shotgun there a couple of years ago. They made me feel like they were doing me a favor by purchasing the gun from THEM.. Never again. Very rude people and no customer skills at all in the whole store. It's gonna come back and really bite them in the butt one of these days with all of the great stores that are popping up in the general area with great customer service.

I say screw 'em... they can keep their rude additude and stick it....

I second the comment by, "azpackhourse". I went into the shop on a recommendation of a buddy. What an experience. I vowed never to go back to that place. Someone needs to give these guys a lesson in customer service... sorry to hear about your experience and that I didn't speak up  .

I dont know exactly who you are talking about but it probably is the shorter, heavy set guy with a beard.

I don't think Jensen's is going to be in business much longer and Murphy's can't be far behind.

I remember suggesting Harry Lawson for the muzzle break but I guess that was shut down.

The guys at Murphy's do need some intense customer service training.

The thing that gets me about them is that my dad goes in there and they cut him deals on used guns all the time. When I go in there and ask them what there best price on a used gun is they tell me 'we price our guns at what we have to get for them'. I am always tempted to call them on it and inform them that my dad gets the prices knocked down all the time but dont figure it is worth it and just let it go.

Havent been in there for a while and really dont plan on going back any time soon. CB

I went down during my lunch break to get my scope box and dry fire bullet, and while I was down at Murphy's spoke with manager (owner)....I didn't get his name. He seems like a really nice guy. took him a copy of everyone's responses and told him that after my experience yesterday, I was not surprised at each of your experiences.

I hate to bring something like this on a public forum for the whole world to see but I believe that this is the only way to get things changed. I just hope that they have a little meeting down there and realize that you just don't treat your customers like dirt nor act like it's a chore to serve them. I'm a civil engineer and if you want repeat customers, you don't treat them like dirt and YOU DO serve them with courtesy, respect and give them the respect they deserves.....they are paying my bills!

I don't want to see Murphy's go under since I believe mom and pop shops are a great heritage and deserve to not be snuffed out by bigger outfits....but HAVE SOME GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR PETE'S SAKE!!

Don't feel bad at what you did, and you didn't put it out there for the whole world to see, you put it out there to make sure you CWT.com buddies don't get the same treatment. No reason to apologize for trying to help them re-adjust some attitudes down there............... Good luck with your gun .

Well I know exactly how you feel. I called them a few times before I went down there to put my new rifle scope on and have it bore sighted. They sounded like it was such a burden for them to do anything. The guy asked me if I needed my scope put on also, It is pretty hard to bore sight a scope if its not on the gun, come on people. It's like he had to ask to make it seem like it was more work for them to do, a simple chore like that and they charged me 20 bucks. Not to mention it took em about 30 min and in there defense, they were busy. Then when the guy brings my gun out from the back, he just leans it against the wall behind everyone walking around and I just had my baby re-blued and the scope was $1000. So I didn't appreciate that one bit, I was just praying someone didn't knock it over. Oh well, last time I go in there, and just being in there, I got a bad vibe from everyone else, they all had stone cold looks on there faces and I watched one guy who was asking to see guns behind the counter, almost stopped asking because the guy behind the counter had an evil look on his face like hurry up or I'm going to kill you.

All these responses at least tell us thes guys are consistent!, and I expect things won't change.

The owner must be blind if he had no clue this was going or the staff follows his lead.

If he wants to change things, he should post here that he fired the offenders and welcome anyone from the forum to see what he has done!

Sadly, Businesses like this are in need of a major attitude adjustment. I bet places like Sportsmens and Cabela's get the blame for them going out of business but the fact is, when you shoot yourself soo many times, you can do nothing else but die!

Yup,

Used to be that same way over here in Phoenix.

I won't mention names..*cough*cough*azspor..*cough*

Things sure did change for the better when 3 Sportsmans Warehouses opened up here in the valley. I'm sure it will get even better with the new Cabelas! I bet all you guys and gals in Tucson will definitely come up when the new Bass Pro Shop opens up!

If there is one thing I hate, it's being treated like dirt when going into a gun shop. Like I have to be ever so grateful for their attention.

Good post.

Glad you went to the owner. A lot of times business owners can't measure their customer service/retention/satisfaction etc. You did a great thing.

Tucson gun store are an interesting thing----one of the only cities I know of where the poulation nearly doubles in the last 20 plus years, yet the number of gun dealers is DOWN nearly half of what it was in the same time span.

I would NOT take anything to Murphy's for gunsmithing---yet I have done quite a bit of business with them over the last 2 decades and am considered one of the "regulars". I will agree that they are quite "cliqueish", and have a HUGE base of "regulars"---I have seen the "attitudes" that are being talked about---if it was ME being treated like that---they would be on my "boycott" list. But I don't think they're going anywhere. Bad service or not.

The only deals there anymore are on the occassional "used" gun---they have WAY to much overhead anymore.

Jensens has been on my "boycott" list for a long time, and Rich's gun room, (that I hear is closed down now)is another.

As of this weekend---Diamondback won't be seeing me ever again.

I have come to travel to Phx. for ALOT of my purchases/needs

my 2 cents
