Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Falls,I personally don't own a 25-06 but my brother does he really likes the 120 gr. Pointed Soft Point Core Lock from Remington and the same bullet on 100 grs. Also he likes the 115 gr.Spitzer with ballistic tip. You'll get more sugestions,it will be a good idea to try 2 or 3 different loads to see what bullet your rifle shoot the best. Enjoy your rifle and God bless you. Ernesto C. COUESAZ Report post Posted April 13, 2004 I have killed all my deer with a 243 and 25-06. I have killed deer as close as 50 yards to 500 yards with ammo bought at wallmart. I also have a friend that reloads all the time and puts hours and hours into his shooting , and has made shots that are almost imposible to think of. What I am trying to say is the 25-06 is so fast and flat shooting that it is just a good gun the way it comes. So any work you put into your ammo and shooting. practice will make it as deadly as you want to make it . Get out and shoot it and have fun with it , And coues deer beware come this season because there is another 25-06 in the field. Good luck in the draw and with the new hunting partner. More D Report post Posted April 13, 2004 I would say to go down to wal-mart/gun shop and buy all the different brands and weights you can. Take your new toy to the range and try and focus initially and getting the best group you can......take your time. Do this only to find which ammo (brand, weight) your rifle likes. Just about all ammo made is great ammo, it might cost a few dollars and time at the range but it will be worth it. You might get lucky and your rifle likes "regular" grey winchesters or remington cor-locs. Then once you know what your rifle likes the only try to use the range to verify your zero a bit before the season. We can tell you what WE use but your rifle is going to tell YOU what to use. PRACTICE, PRACTICE in the hills. My rifle likes remington 150gr cor-locs, shoots .89 inch groups at a 100 yards with them. Any thing heavier or even the same weight but a different brand groups average 3 inch(BIG DIFFERENCE) some as much as 5 inch with point of impact way out of wack. I reload some but it takes me hours and hours and the groups are only a little better at .78 inch.
coueshunter Report post Posted April 13, 2004 I shoot a .257 wby mag and use 115 ballistic tips. I think the ballistic tips are the right choice for coues........
Prohunt Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Falls, I have harvested a bunch of Coues with my 700 Remington .25-06. My gun shoots great with the 120 and 100 grain Core-Lokt's. The only mods I have done to this gun is a glass bedding and lightened trigger and this is probably my most accurate gun I own. Good luck! Travis
