BASS Report post Posted August 1, 2006 While out this weekend for the military vehicle rally I took off for a short hike on the only public land in the whole area I stumbled upon this little gem. I think it looks more like a carp, or eastern than a coues. Who ever did it, must have been a heck of an artist... or very bored. \
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted August 1, 2006 That is definitely the best graffiti I have ever seen carved into a tree. Looks like a carp to me.... Amanda
billrquimby Report post Posted August 1, 2006 That is definitely the best graffiti I have ever seen carved into a tree. Looks like a carp to me.... Amanda I'm impressed, too! The artist definitely meant to depict a mule deer. Note the line between the eyes to show a muley's dark skull cap. Bill Quimby

COOSEFAN Report post Posted August 1, 2006 Thats a one of a kind tree carving right there! Definitely had an artistic talent to do that. I certainly think it's depicting a Muley. Thanks for the pic, very cool. JIM>

BASS Report post Posted August 1, 2006 what part of the state didi you find that.that is some major talent. Up past Flagstaff of the FS 151 road. I saw four or five nice coues bucks, but like I said in the above post most of the area is all private land. The photo is actually right off the road, maybe ten yards or so. All of the trees out there are all carved up with names, and sayings all the way back to the 70s. It was really neat to see how the history played into each carving. I took a photo of a nice forked coues, but the digi cam zoom didn't work very well at that distance. I'll try to clean it up a bit, and then I will post it here. DEERSLAM Report post Posted August 1, 2006 MULEY. It's alot better than looking at every ones name. In the back country of Idaho I found probably around a 100 trees over miles of country that were carved by the same sheep herder. The guy must of been really bored. The sheep were probably really nervous

BASS Report post Posted August 1, 2006 Bass, Coues bucks off Rd. 151? Someone told me they saw a Coues buck off Hart Prairie Rd. a long time ago. Interesting. Mike Yep, FS 418 (I think) to FS 151. Good luck though, like I said it is almost all "private property, no hunting" if you can find a land owner there that will let you hunt their property you would have it made.
