If the first shot hadnt missed by 3 feet I would say awesome for sure!

Well in reality he was only off by 3 MOA.....not to bad really.

This guy practices these ranges all the time. Just about every time I go out to the local range he's there shooting and fine tuning. At that distance even the slightest angle can change your point of impact dramatically. I'm sure this explains the first shot miss. Two shots to kill a deer at 1200 yards is pretty dang good. I know a lot of people who have shot far more times at far less yardage because they don't put in the work to know where thier gun shoots. Good job Clint. I know you put in the time and was confident at that range.

The thing most don't understand is that with lots of practice, any of these shots are doable. The 6.5x284 is a very capable rig. If a guy has worked up a load and knows his rifle shoots sub MOA at all yardages he plans on shooting, then I'd say the guy should have all the confidence in the world to pull off a shot like that. I don't know know the guy and don't have to, but if he's practiced at those yardages, verified his drop chart, has good quality equipment and conditions are right a shot like that is doable day in and day out. Based on the pictures, he was in the prone position, probably the most stable position to be in for shooting LR. Based on the angle, if he didn't account for his slope he could have missed simply by not taking that into account......either way he had to come up between 38-40 MOA......dang impressive.

39 MOA to be exact is what it took to drop him.

LOL @ all the long range haters on here. Honestly what business is it of yours how far he shot his deer ? what are you his wife ? you do sound like a typical woman with nothing better to do than nag and complain about something.

Congrats to the hunter for a awesome shot

That's what I wanted out there Jeff but I had a scope go south on me the week before the hunt so I went with the back up.

So stupid why people are even talking bad about this, you could give everyone on this site 5 shots at that Buck and 99% wouldn't come within a 50 feet of that Buck. Hats off to you sir that obviously wasn't your first time shooting at that distance, as many people have said.

I can't believe how many people are defend finding this guy for shooting that distance. Looking at the picture he posted there are a lot of diffe shooter could have moved to to get to a reasonable shooting distance. Its a hunters responsibility to get as close as possible before setting up for a shot. I Dont care how good you think you are you Dont shoot that far at an animal.

I don't remember reading that section of my hunting hand book that says hunters are obligated to get as close as possible???? I must have missed that page. Because there isn't one and ur going off ur opinion witch is this case is bashshing another hunters success .. Keep it to urself or cry to ur wife about it but let this guy enjoy his tag filled!!!!!! I'm guessing that military snipers shoud get closer as well cause that's not fair that the people don't know where they are...lol... He did what he was supposed to do make a clean kill shot! Period!!!!

First of all if you need to read a hunting handbook to learn hunting ethics you are pathetic. Second Opinions are all anybody has on any of these forums so if you have a problem with mine too bad, if my opinions upset you so much maybe you should move to the rainbow pride forum instead. And yeah I Dont have a problem with this guy "enjoying" his tag its when he post the yardage and goes fishing for complements from the faithful Long range enthusiasts that I have a problem with and all of you encouraging him to do it again. And as for the military snipers I Dont care how far they are because they are shooting at threats not deer. I couldn't give a sh*t less if a towel head gets his leg or arm blown off. Its when I see deer gut shot or dead in thein the bottom of a canyon rotting or on 3 legs when I get p*ssed. maybe you are forgetting he missed the first shot! PERIOD.

Who invited Internet tough guy? Lol ur typing is so hurtful . Legendary I simply implied not to bash the guy on his kill. Many people miss so don't make rediculas comments like that cause that just show ur ignorant. I'm going to have to decline ur invitation to the rainbow forum, I her what ur guys do on there and that's nasty.

Thank you Amanda for a respectfull post unlike these other tools. I hope they don't start bashing the kids threads cause they missed the first time.

Impressive shot. I certainly have no problem with it ... you obviously know what you are doing and are skilled. I am even more impressed looking at your setup with just a bipod as a solid rest. It was all you. I half expected the picture to show your rifle locked into a tripod with shooting sticks behind it. All you! Solid.

  1. Wow I guess you all should go back thru the success stories and count how many stories had those guys missing multiple shots before they finally walked one into the deer. This guy missed 1 shot then cleanly dropped his buck no problem. As for having someone between you and a shot I guess they better shut down the 22n elk hunt now as we all know how that zoo unfolds. My guess is you could shoot a 300 hundred yard shot and not know someone was between you and the animal.

Just for fun I just read 6 successfull stories on this site and counted 14 missed shots at under 350 yards. The interesting thing is no one said 1 thing about the misses. Why? the shots that guy's say were hi was followed with the comment they readjusted and made a clean kill. Just like the hunter at a longer range yet no comments about the misses.

First off I have shot a few times with Clint at the range and I would say that he is up to the shot. For what is also worth I would have to say that I personally wouldn't have, but I also wouldn't own a gun that burns close to 100 grains of powder per shot and kicks like an artillery piece, wouldn't own anykind of black rifle, put a muzzle brake on anything smaller than a african caliber rifle, and I wouldn't vote for Obummer, but with that said I wouldn't say that anyone that did anyone of those things is wrong either! Well maybe voting for a gun grabbing democrat is just wrong.
