azhuntnut Report post Posted October 29, 2012 Looks like the lions have shown up again this year. I have been able to find 4 different lion tracks within the last 2 weeks. One even has an injury that limits one of its pads from touching the ground very much when walking. We have also been out at night spotlighting hoping to find one wandering around. The deer population in this area has declined greatly. I put out 4 cameras this past weekend hoping to get some pics of this big boy. David

Couzer Report post Posted October 31, 2012 Nice pic David! I hope you get that big guy on cam! I'm working on some portable spot lights that are Bad A! I have to show you one when I get done, and maybe go try them out with our wssm AR's in a open unit.
azhuntnut Report post Posted October 31, 2012 We have been using these lights lately, and they are super bright. The way the law is written, you can actually use a light connected to a vehicle until an animal is located. (Weapon must be cased and not easily accessible) Once located, you have to go to a hand held wireless unit and make an effort to pursue the animal. (With the vehicle shut off) That way it is not considered using your vehicle to pursue game. The mobile unit would work great for calling them in, but in my experience from last year, lions are not afraid of the lights, and you could get away with using a good handheld spotlight. At least the area we are hunting. If the law would have been in effect last year, I could have shot several in one weekend, one as close as 40 yards.
