Pumping Gas From 5Gal Containers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'll be on a hunt where I have to carry a LOT of gas. As we all know, dumping gas from a WalMart can into a truck is a messy deal. Anyone have any good ideas for getting your truck refilled without gettting smelly?

Clear tubing and an outboard hand primer pump. Clear tubing lets you see the gas in it. use the hand primer to get it started, then keep the can higher than the tank to keep the siphon going.

Like this.

I got 2 cans u can use that are not messy at all. I'll take picture tomorrow

Thanks Bonecollector. I've got 5 5 gallon tanks, and I figure I'll need at least 10 just to stay mobile up there. I sent out a text to some buddies looking for any available, and lots of nice people have replied.

Where are you located?

We use the millitary style cans no spill and very easy to use, compared to the red gas cans from walmart. you can get them at a millitary store also sportsman guide has them! I know there is a store down in phoenix, just can't remember the name!

Coach,

I use something called a supersiphon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000ZORJ1E

It self primes and will drain a 5 gal tank in under 2 mins.

Not cheap but lasts and doesnt make you do all the pumping.

Also, Id be happy to lend one to you for your hunt. Im located in N Phx but could mail it to you or meet you above the rim somewhere.

SWDesertRat - thank you so much for the offer - I really appreciate it. I got with my dad today and we worked out a DIY system very close to this. Basically, it's a siphon with a traditional squeeze bulb and valve on the downhill side.

Thanks to all the great ideas and suggestions. You guys are awesome.

I had a taco like urs they are great trucks but small gas tank is a bummer. That was my only complaint. Highway I would get between 280 to 320 to a tank. In the sticks 200 to 250 depending. I always wanted to get a bigger tank but never did so I understand why u want extra gas.. I had the 6speed manual double cab 4x4 2005 I miss that truck:( great for out in the sticks one of my most impressive trucks. Could just cruise down those dirt roads leaving everyone behind lol. TRD is a good suspension system. IMO
