Cabelas or the Sportsmens Warehouse?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone compared prices and merchandise at these two stores. Who has better prices or choices?

I moved away from the valley about 3 years ago because I hate the city but I almost wish I still lived there since the Sportsmens Warehouse, Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops have moved in.

Which do you prefer.

Haven't had a chance to get to Cabela's but I sure do love goin' in to the Warehouse. I usually don't get much when I go, but I like to get away and just be in a place where there is a lot of cool stuff. :D :)

Oh Paleesee....

Cabela's has the selection and customer service second to no one.

I wander around in sportsmans warehouse for 90 minutes every time I went there, and NO ONE ever asked to help me. They were good but never more thatn that. Their selection is okay but lateley they seem to be selling a lot of wierd stuff, Mfr overruns and factory seconds. Sure that'll bring me back. NOT !

Cabela's has the best warranty of any retailer out there and very competitive prices. I am not gonna worry about a few pennies when I am out for a big buck.

In a few words, Cabela's... Sure, you might ask for better, but you'd never get it.! IMHO

Sportsmans since I have one 3 miles away here in Tucson and the prices on guns I think are better. Cabelas is not the discount outlet they use to be since they spend too much money on printing catalogs and postage. Cabelas is nice since you can get things there you can't find anywhere else. Now, will the Phoenix metro area be able to support 3 sportsmans, a Cabelas, and a Bass Pro?????

Sportsman will get most of my coin. I have had very good help there when i need it. There is not a time i go in that they are almost pushy with trying to help me out. I even had a guy get out the new wayne carlton bugle and dang near embarase him self trying to show me how it works.

The only complaint i have with sportsmans is to return something is a chore. My friend had a pair of boots than wore out in a month of dove hunting. He took them back and they would not work with him. The soles were falling off. If you go into the bargin cave at cabelas you will se they trake anything back. That was my favorit place in the whole store.

Cabelas was cool don't get me wrong but for the one hour drive to them compaired to the 2 minute drive to the sportsmans in mesa. It is a no brainer who will get most of my money. (wallmart) :D

At SW, I wish they would STOP asking me if I need help. It's annoying. If I need, help, I'll ask.

I wasn't thrilled with their archery shop either. I went in to get new strings and cables and the guy helping me had no friggin clue what he was doing. They had my EXACT same bow hanging on the rack (Hoyt/Reflex) directly behind the guy, but he looked at my bow and said "I ain't never seen no cables like this b'fore."

I like to go into those stores and check stuff out and spend money, but its not worth living in the valley for. I like safford much better.

I live in the middle of town and I can be at the edge of town hunting quail in about 5 minutes and deer in about 20.

Yeah, I'm jealous. the fact that you can be hunting anything in 5 minutes. However it doesn't matter about deer because I can't seem to get drawn. I've had 2 elk tags in the past three years, (cow) and no deer in the last two.

Well Knock my Alaskan Guide Socks off!

I am surprised that Cabelas is not # 1 with a lot more of us. Maybe the are too new to the area for us to learn the appreciation factor. Bass Pro will be a good addition on the east side so after they open, we are about covered within 30 minutes from anywhere in the valley for a sportsman.

If I had a sportsmans warehouse a few minutes away, I would probably find it hard to drive an hour to Cabela's more than 1 or 2 times a year too.

Warranty and customer service means a lot to me though so now that they are here, if I don't get it at walmart, Cabela's will be the place.

After going to Cabela's, I was kinda let down. I guess after all the hype, I expected to see more selection in the pack section but couldnt find even one Eberlstock pack (which is what I was going to buy for my son). I went to the optics counter to buy some replacement lens covers for my 10x42 SLC's and they dont carry any parts/pieces just the bino's according to the counter person. I went to the bow section to possibly buy a youth bow and the counter person said they did not have a youth bow section. It is probably me and my over expectations after all the hype, but for my money, Sportsmans so far is my choice. I actually went there today and bought the pack and bino lense covers with not a problem............Allen Taylor......

I live in Safford and was thrilled with the Sportsmans warehouse in Mesa. Everything I could have hoped for. I also have been a lifelong cabelas fan and will continue to be one. I bought a thompson Center muzzleloader from them in 2001, shot it about a hundred times, took it elk hunting in New Mexico and after it failed to fire twice they took it back!! Full discount applied to a CVA that dents the 209's like an 870 pump. Cabelas customer service is great.

Cabela's and Sportsman's each has their place with me. Sportsman's is closer, so I'll still be going there for odds and ends. I think Sportsman's is going to have to improve their customer service, mainly regarding returns.

SW 30 day return policy stinks. I'll often buy things in the summer for the upcoming season and won't really get to use it until after the 30 days. If it fails I'll want to return it.

Another thing that ticks me off about SW is that the Phx store seems much better stocked than the Mesa store. I see better selections at the phx store and it seems like some different stuff, mainly in regards to clothes and outerwear.

I've ordered plenty from Cabelas and they've never done me wrong. It was nice to finally put my hands on some things I've only seen in the catalogs so far. It will be nice to be able to try on boots and clothes now.
