San-tan transformer

Recommended Posts

Those of us in the Northwest Valley remember the transformer fire a couple years back. APS used that as a basis to raise rates this year. I just read that APS posted a 300% increase in profits this month since the Corp. Commission approved their increases several months ago. Coincidence?????What's in store now?? Some Exxon style- gouging?? Is that APS out in the San Tans or is SRP keepin' up with the Jones'???

The fire from a few years ago was an SRP tranformer sub station, it is about a half mile from my house and I have aps. I wish they had to compete for customers, I wish we could choose who we want as our electrical supplier, but the good news is that we have a nulear power plant just out of the valley that supplies California. They get the power and we get the price increases and nuclear liability.

the big fire of a couple years ago was an APS operated station. like almost all electric facilities, they are participant owned. but APS operates that one. the transformer fire at santan was just that, a transformer fire. it faulted inside and set the oil ablaze. i don't think anyone is gonna risk burning down a billion dollar asset to get a little rate hike. i just read that all units are up and running at full capacity and they are already starting work on installing a spare transformer. ain't gonna need to be a rate increase to cover a 230 transformer for sure. they ain't all that big.
