arizonaelitefreak Report post Posted October 14, 2012 trying to mount my scope on my rifle and ran out of up and down adjustment when bore sighting it so my dad shimmed up the back to bring sthe front down, my question is this right or is there something else I need to do to keep the accuracy of the rifle on? by the way this is a savage axis 308 with weaver rings and bases. POB Report post Posted October 15, 2012 Sounds like you might have the wrong bases for your rifle. Happened to me once.
arizonaelitefreak Report post Posted October 15, 2012 it was the base that came with it then I had to get the extensions for it cuz the scope wasnt close enough for me now I think Im gunna get the one piece base from evolution gun works and see what happens. running out of time though got a deer hunt coming up in bout a month. should of started earlier. Redman Report post Posted October 15, 2012 shimming is fine... you can also use Burris Offset Inserts (you have to use Burris Rings) http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=6431/pid=26144/Product/SIGNATURE-OFFSET-RING-INSERTS?mc_id=80000&srch=1&gdftrk=gdfV21820_a_7c187_a_7c3466_a_7c118626017_d_118626016_d_10147
STOMP442 Report post Posted October 15, 2012 Burris rings would be the way to go for sure but you shouldn't have a problem with bore sighting using the factory mounts and scope unless you are too close or the scope is bad. There should be plenty of adjustment to get on paper at 100 or 200 yards using a factory setup unless there is something really off.
arizonaelitefreak Report post Posted October 17, 2012 it is not a factory scope I changed it out to my new vortex viper 3.5-10x50 and added the extension on the front so I coud move the scope back and get the eye relief i needed
rcdinaz Report post Posted October 18, 2012 It almost sounds like the stock is to long for you? I can't remember a rifle I ran out of room moving back for proper eye relief. Go check out the Midway video on YouTube regarding length of pull. As for bases a one piece base with 20 MOA adjustment is a simple fix, Burris is also a good recommendation if you don't already have rings you were planning on using.
