DBArcher Report post Posted April 5, 2004 I was just wondering if anyone has had luck with this technique. I tried it for elk, but I have never tried on Deer. Where should I set up my treestand.
galiuro mountain man Report post Posted April 5, 2004 I would set it over water, all animals have to drink. It is a very good method during Aug. because the deer will really need water. Another good method is ground blinds at water, all it takes is about 30 min. of your time. I have personally used both, and prefer the ground blind, because nobodt will steal it. I have had 1 commercial treestand stolen and 2 aluminum home made ones stolen. These were from unit 31, now I hunt 32 and go deep in the wilderness so I dont want to carry treestands with me, so I use ground blinds. One bad thing about ground blinds, use scent free OFF bug spray if the blind is near grass. I was attacked by chiggers last year and itched like crazy for a month. You can get a scent free type with deet that should work good. Hope this helps GMM
TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Put your treestand up on a ridgline with lots of rubs and scrapes during dec/jan. You will have bucks checking the scrapes. Even mock scrapes will work.
